By the time he made a fuss this year, it was too little too late as we were already on the outside looking in. He should have gone postal while we were still IN the rich guy's club.
I hate to say it, but this autonomy approval makes us less of a "tweener" football conference that is between the P5 and G5 and instead lowers us to being more on par with the rest of the G5.
I know right! When they were taking the power label away, we should have sued the f**k out of them for inclusion. I'm sure our conference would look a little bit different too.
Makes no f--ing difference. You're either willing to match what the P5 are doing or not.
UConn easily has the money for that... for now....

Our conference membership supports the new governance model and the opportunities it will present to enhance the student-athlete experience and student-athlete welfare. Our presidents and athletic directors are steadfast in their commitment to these ideals and also to providing our student-athletes with the ability to compete at the highest level of collegiate athletics.

Not to be cruel, but you all did it a year too early. Everyone was looking towards this season since the majority of re-alignment is to occur. No one is questioning if the AAC is good basketball conference. Being good at Basketball really means nothing in Football. I don't know who the commish was when the Big East turned down the original TV offer form ESPN, but that is what doomed the OBE/AAC. The problem is perception, the P5 get 10 times what the AAC gets in football tv money. It will take years for the AAC to get back on the level of the P5 TV money, if ever.
Lets say in three years the AAC could get 5 times the money it gets now, it is still only half of what the P5 gets. In theory, the ACC may be getting there network, we already see what the B10 and SEC is doing with there TV Revenue. This is not even looking at the possible poaching of teams to the P5. Cincy and UCONN have made it pretty clear, they would jump at the first chance. I assume UCF would as well. I still believe there will be internal pressure from the other P4 on the B12 to go to at least 12 times in the near future.

AAC - Ok, no problem.....
Rule Change #2 - Raise Scholarship Limits
AAC - Wait what? Uh Oh......
Rule change #2 is not allowed under autonomy.
Plus transfer rules nor signing period can be changed without ALL of D1 voting. These were the biggest issues IMO.
Correct. It should be noted that the power to make autonomous transfer rules and scholarship limits were originally in the first proposal. Feedback from the rest of D-1 eliminated those areas from autonomous control in exchange for lowering the super-majority necessary to pass autonomous legislation. The MW and AAC were some of the more vocal conferences in fighting for transfer rules and scholarship limits to be removed from autonomous powers. IMHO, that was a major victory in maintaining the AAC's ability to stay competitive.

The AAC will never reach P5 level in income. They simply have no anchor schools like Texas or Ohio St. However, the realistic goal is to simply become less like the G5 and more like the P5 in regards to earnings and bowl access. If the AAC can earn half what the P5 conferences make---then that's mission accomplished. The AAC can stay competitive with the P5 earning half what the P5 make. The average G5 school CANNOT stay competitive over the long term if they continue make 10% (or less) of what the average P5 school earns in media dollars. The G5 will never match the P5 earnings--but under the right conditions, I think it may be possible to close the gap some.

Agreed. IMO, the doom and gloom of this is really that the G5 might slowly become G4 or even G3. I think the AAC for sure, and the MWC will do what is needed to be competitive. AAC cant do everything. Need will be covered , extra maybe/probably not. The best players will still go to majority P5 schools. As long as we continue to put kids in the pros we will continue to get quality athletes to field quality teams.

Either you know this or you're typing with a malfunction computer/iPad/Phone that isn't allowing you to type the right thing... I think you posted to soon without given it much thought, but that's ok, your school isn't a membe of this league so I get it.
Had this league stumble this past season, the talking heads would of trashed this league 24/7 yet the AAC goes out accomplishes not one, but runs away with 3 major NCAA accomplishments the BCS Bowl, Men's & Women's Basketball Championships.
So yes, the AAC did right by flexing it's muscles early to be consider a power conference both in Football and Basketball.

Nope. #2 is not on the table for autonomy. It's actually not even subject to the weighted voting within FBS. It is specifically a one-conference/one-vote issue within FBS.
