"Power conference" narrative being echoed by AAC AD's
“I think we are a power conference and we have proven that,” Compher said. “We need to step up and act like the ‘Autonomy 5’ or ‘Power 5’ and make sure we are able to keep the same kinds of policies and reform measures. As a school and as a conference, we don’t want to take a back seat to anyone.”

Well, he's saying the right things, at least.

Now it's up to all 11 members to back the words up with actions -- on the field, in the stands, etc.

I like Compher's use of the term "Autonomy 5" in lieu of "Power 5" - more accurate and less damaging. I have resolved to never say or type "Power 5" again and I suggest that we all stop using that insulting term on our forum.

04-cheers +2

I've been saying the same thing for awhile. I use the terms "contract" and "noncontract". Will not use the term "Power 5/ P5 or Group of 5 / G5".

Every time one of our school's fans uses them, they might as well be agreeing with the media and the contract conferences.

It's great to say this, but money speaks louder. The P5 will position their product as superior to anybody else and as a result we'll continue receiving the puny TV contracts we have now. IF anything else, I can see our TV money going down.

TV money will not go down unless we lose teams. We are actually good for espn inventory with all these new conference networks. We had "decent" ratings and we are proving to be better than expected in hoops. The real question is do we extend our current contract in the look-in period for say an extra $1 million per team or hold out for the end of the existing deal to try to push $4 million or higher.

The last time the OBE turned down ESPN, it didn't end well. You don't want to anger Mickey Mouse.

I have heard the Houston AD assert that UH will do whatever it takes to keep up with the power schools, and that includes paying student athletes, if need be. (Although I am against the whole concept)

Like has been said many times, you either or a member of the P5 or you aren't.

The AAC may well perform better in terms of wins and losses and national titles--and be more "powerful" in that context--than some P5 conferences. That doesn't make us a power conference in the terms in which it is used by the Ncaa, the media, etc.

Not to say that winning doesn't help advance the AAC towards that goal, but winning alone doesn't accomplish it.

Trust fund 5. Use it everywhere. The fans dictate college football, not conferences. Especially when 70% of those conferences suck at football and all sports.

Americans hate trust fund babies.

http://documentaryaddict.com/Zeitgeist+A...4-doc.html

For those that have a couple hours on their hands here's a really interesting documentary about the haves and have nots (it attempts to locate the root causes of pervasive social corruption). CFB is just a microcosm of a larger phenomenon that has its precepts deeply rooted in greed and deception.

I don't necessarily agree fully with everything this film endorses but it is a very interesting perspective and it raises some very important issues. I honestly think that everything is gonna work out okay for our teams in the CFB universe and for us as individuals in society at large. Call me an optimist if you want but things really are going to change for the better.

Sorry bro but the AAC/MWC & BYU will do whatever is in their power to screw the other G5 conferences. They see C-USA & co as obstacles not assets.

Should the AAC really be bragging here? You guys are good but if you want to do a d!ck measuring contest to say that you have a slight edge over the 7th best FBS conference ==> be my guest but forgive me if I crack up.
