The N.C. State Wolfpack will be coming to Huntington in 2018. Very excited about this partnership. The ACC coming to Edwards Stadium
We go there in 2017.
So much for the blunderbuss theory that we cannot get h&h series with P5 teams...
Congratulations! This is the type of scheduling we need to see more of in C-USA. I hope North Texas can sign a Home and Home with a P5 like Arkansas, Cal, or Washington State.
I get Arkansas being they arent too far away from you guys, but I'm confused by your desire to play Cal and Wash. St. Do you live in one of those places or were you just naming weak P5 schools?
I am about a 5 hours or closer guy. Of course we do have the benefit of many above average schools in our region. IMO I would love to see Cincy, Kentucky, Louisville, WVU, Pitt, or VT fairly regularly. Then our Ohio and FCS games. And lastly a wildcard type game it doesn't matter really as long as it isn't a buy game with a traditional power like Ohio State or Florida. Those games haven't worked out well for us over the last 10 years.
I named those three for a few different reasons.
Arkansas- close location, historically respected program, would increase local media interest, and I think we could beat them.
Cal- PAC12 program, would increase local media interest, I think we could beat them, and beating them in Berkley would give UNT good west coast exposure.
Washington State (My top choice)- PAC12 program on the rise, Right now, I think we could beat them, Texas media would all report on the return of Leach, Leach wants to play in Dallas for recruiting. Would give UNT good west coast exposure. I honestly believe Leach will make WSU an annual contender to win the PAC, and they don't have an annual regular "home and home" series in their OOC schedule. I'd love to sign them to a long term 10 plus year "Home and Home" series. I think Leach would do aree to a long term deal in order to guarantee WSU plays in the Dallas recruiting market every other year. Three years from now, we probably won't be able to sign a deal like this with Washington State.

He has no ties to Marshall except they are from the same city. He played at Ferrmun and VA as guard and LB. His was on the staff at Marshall under Sonny Randle from 79-83. But to him it was just a job and nothing more.
Grobe is from Huntington.
He used to coach at Marshall.
His son is current golf coach at Marshall.
Other than that he has no ties to Marshall.
Except for the 4 years as LB coach under Randle which is in my post, Grobe has no ties. His son Matt is the HC of golf and attended Marshall that doesn't automatically give Jim warm fuzzy feelings when he thinks of Marshall. Im sure he is proud of Matt but still.

He said that because he knew that we were talented and he would now have to play us and not sure he could beat us when we joined the MAC. Has nothing to do with disliking us. It's like saying you're less than excited about fighting Johny Hendricks, because you know you are probably about to get your ass kicked.
I didn't say it was said in a bad way at the Herd. I just quoted what Grobe said while at Ohio and Wake. But now that he is gone, Id like to see if Hamrick could get a series with them. I think it would be some good games. And well Winston-Salem, NC wouldn't be a hard drive at all.

Wouldn't shock me a bit if they bought it out. They're already assuming they're going to buy this out, just like they will Troy and USA.
At some point NC State will have to play these games they are buying out or teams will stop scheduling them. I wish Marshall could have hosted NC State on the front end in 2017 and make the return the trip in 2018. That is what USA did with Oklahoma State.
By the way, I'm not exactly sure NC State will buy out the USA game next season. NC State has Mobile/USA connections in the Gottfried family, the Mobile area is a recruiting hotbed, and we already rescheduled the date for the game next year at their request. We were supposed to open the season with NC State next year but moved the game to September 26 so that they could schedule another game. I would imagine if they were buying the game out we wouldn't have gone through the trouble of re-scheduling it. Not saying it won't happen, but it seems less likely after the date change. Now Troy... that wouldn't surprise me.
