This idea is being discussed too much --- I think we'll see some sort of informal separation first. Maybe with just the teams or conferences that want to go there --- note the mention of the B1G and possibly going to 10 conference games, the ACCs and SEC's decision to require an OOC P5 game. Then, if it works well we'll see more P5s scheduling that way --- especially since SOS is a factor in deciding bowls.

As I understand it, the College Football Playoff system is technically open to all schools, including G5 schools. If the P5 agrees either tacitly or explicitly to no longer schedule G5 schools, then it's starting to look like collusion, which would inevitably lead to the filing of an anti-trust lawsuit, either by a G5 school or a state AG from a G5 state, e.g. New Mexico or Connecticut.

The only carrot that the P5 schools have now to ensure G5 schools cooperation is the opportunity of playing P5 schools. Take that away, and what disincentive to the G5 schools have not to litigate? What more are they going to lose? They would have everything to gain by taking it to court.

Great post. Also, no G5 schools and no 6 wins needed for a bowl game, which is completely ridiculous. For those defending Bill Snyder; he is being even more ridiculous. He doesn't want to play G5 schools; NOT because he has any kind of noble notion. He wants to play them because he needs more home games to make even more money. The $25 million in television revenue just isn't enough for K-State.

Sure, the Coaches don't want to risk losing games to 'non-power' teams AND if they get their way it's the ultimate recruiting tool.

"Son, you don't want to play for 'insert any G5 school name' because they play in the lower tier of competition. You want to play with the best right?"

It'd be the same as FBS schools recruiting against FCS schools right now.

If there is a line drawn we'd better make sure we're on the right side of it.

The call to relax the 6-win bowl rule is disturbing, one more way to squeeze out the G5.

But who wants to watch a bunch of mediocre teams play? I think this will backfire on em. Is someone gonna travel to watch their five win team play in a bowl? Are you gonna flip on the tv to watch?

That's the problem. Many college football fans would prefer to watch a 5-win P5 team, rather than a 6-win G5 team. And if I'm right, then that's another obstacle to overcome, if we can.

that makes total sense. Wouldn't you rather watch two schools with losing records from the bottom of the P5 conferences than two schools with winning records from the G5, e.g. Cincinnati, BYU or Boise St.?

Damn, we need a sarcasm font.

Also, if they only play each other, the lower level teams in the P5 are not going to be able to rack up wins against cupcakes in buy games like they do now.

TV ratings are decent enough for bowl games that gets 6-6 teams.

They are going to do what they want....but I don't even have an interest in my OWN 5-win team going to a bowl.

A 5-win bowl team would be great for laughing at on Twitter and that's it.

I don't really watch any of the bowls now except the title one. I'm certainly in the minority though.

Well, the rich will get richer, and the poor will get left out. We (Tigers) missed the boat many years ago when Spook Murphy had it going and they dropped the (foot)ball by going in pursuit of basketball glory.

ESPN created the glut of bowls for programming. They are ruining college sports.
