Polar vortex forcasted for late SUMMER
Quote:"The polar vortex – that extremely cold air that swirls above the North Pole – may make a brief visit to the Northeast next month...There could be a significant shot of chilly air that comes across the Great Lakes region and into the interior Northeast sometime in mid to late September,” said Paul Pastelok, the lead long-range forecaster for the State College, Pa.-based weather forecasting service.

It started out bad, but we've had several cool waves.

It was 69 here last Saturday.

The last two summers have been really cool here, but that is because it has rained so much.

Good, I'm hoping that convinces my in-laws to stay in Charlotte and not move down here!

We had record low highs all last week and the two weeks before that. We were hitting highs of 65F and 70F... And barely any rain might I add.

Yea, this been one cold ass summer. Last summer we had weeks at a time over 90 and a few days over 100. This year we haven't had one recorded 90 degree day. If we were to do averages, I have to assume that 2014 is around 10-15 degrees colder than 2013 here in Pittsburgh. August is traditionally the warmest month of the year here and today's high will only be 80 and tomorrow will be 82.

It's been an awesome summer near DC. And friends in Ohio were saying the same thing. Very comfortable, plenty of rain for crops.

Of course Japan is experiencing a heat wave (although the temps I saw weren't all that shocking).

Meanwhile Australia is having a very cold winter.

It's almost like some places are warm and some cold. 04-jawdrop

Yeah, my parents have a condo at 7 Springs and we went over 4th of July. One day I am not sure it got out of the 50s and over 4 days I don't think it got above 75. Nice weather for my running and watching fireworks, but it was to cold for the little one to use the pool for more than about 5 minutes. It hasn't been that cool here... stayed mostly in the 80s, but usually it is in the upper 90s all July and beginning of August.

I've yet to see 100 degrees this summer, and if I had to guess, I would say our average temps for the 2014 summer is around 84 degrees which is unheard of for this area. Hell, in 2011 we saw 90 straight days above 100, sometimes with a heat index of 119, and it's been gradually getting cooler since then, and now not a single day at 100.

I cannot remember a summer where we didn't have a single 100 day this late in summer. 2 years ago we had a record 20 100+ days in Aug.

Have you seen any this year? I mean, I've seen two, but those were both heat indexes so I don't count them. I've never gone a summer without a 100 degree day in even June... Until this year.

As always, I blame Al Gore. Without his retarded theory, temperature wouldn't even be a discussion on a political forum.

Not one yet. Gore got rich from his antics. It is the best revenge for him. That jerk was a breath away from being president. Good thing Fla. had a Republican governor and Fla. SOS whats her name.

It fits your Global Warming belief well. Everywhere besides the state you live in is double digits below the average temp...

I can't say it blows my mind at all. It's just normal weather. A year or two from now, Idaho will experience colder than normal weather while the east coast experiences hotter than normal. The jet stream cuts across the nation in a series of waves from west to east. While we all are talking about this cold summer, places like Cali are experience the worst drought in a long time.

Easily the mildest summers in my memory the last 2-3 years here. And very wet too which is good because we came off 2 or so years of drought that had some of the water supply lakes down as much as 8-10 feet.

NSRA Street Rod Nationals in Louisville we're only mid 80's last weekend. Incredible weather for an outdoor car show featuring 10,211 street rods, Muscle cars and Customs. Great time for all involved. Sorry Libs, Way too much High Octane fuel burned. But the sky was brilliant Blue overhead.Imagine that !

California is always in a drought. Always having forest fires... At least they're used to it.
