Most of the MAC posters do, but they are just like me and others. The are known as the "BUGS" and not "BGSU". I know I hardly ever refer to the Falcons as Bowling Green. Its always the BUGS.
Good to know they can chuckle at moronic nicknames like we can with MUTS.

You are so right. It confuses us for the uninformed with "Tennessee State", an HBCU playing at the 1-AA level. Although TSU has a pretty impressive Athletic History, they are not Middle Tennessee either academically or athletically. I blame the Tennessean newspaper, ESPN and that Orange school in East Tennessee for the continued insistence on "State", when referring to Middle Tennessee. This is, of course, because they don't want to admit that we are THE UNIVERSITY OF (and for) MIDDLE TENNESSEE!!!
I'm confused here. You have MTSU under your user name. So what does it say on the diplomas that are issued when you graduate? Not trolling just curious. Isn't there a State in your name?
It's not a question of the university's name - it IS Middle Tennessee State University. Instead, it's branding - we want to be called MT or Middle Tennessee rather than MTSU or Middle Tennessee State in athletic circles. It's somewhat similar to Georgia Tech being called GT or Georgia Tech rather than GIT or Georgia Institute of Technology, even though G.I.T. is their actual name.
TCU might be a better example. They took some heat a few years back hen they announced they wanted to be known as TCU and not as Texas Christian.
You're right.

Indeed. Those 2 votes have rendered the entire effort worthless.
OT, for the record, I'm not in favor of such separation from the major conferences but I do applaud the work/effort you put into it.

ULL is a valid #1 vote. I don't know anyone who voted that way, but it's far from absurd.

I think there's a fair amount of room between valid and absurd, II'deven give you that iit's closer to valid than it is to absurd, but I cannot see how anyone could objectively vote them #1.
I guess we'll see.

Not absurd, but far from the most logical choice. ULL has a good team, and they deserve to be ranked in this poll, but I don't see them getting through their OOC schedule with road wins at Boise and Ole' Miss, earning the access bowl spot, and ending the season ranked #1 in this poll. 2 voters did. I can't see how these 2 fair minded individual could place ULL first, ahead of programs like Houston, BYU, Boise State, UCF, and Marshall.

This is just opinion being expressed here, nothing more. Not a down of football has been played by anyone, no?
I don't see the Cajuns going undefeated either, but if they do, I'll bet they'll be mentioned prominently in the access bowl discussions along with anyone else who's undeated or has only one loss. Strength of schedule will be very important and as will road wins.

BYU and Navy are not members of the G5, they are Independents.

They are independent, but unlike Notre Dame, they both play predominantly G5 schedules. I think you will notice that Notre Dame, which plays a predominantly P5 schedule, was not included in the list of eligible schools. Though they could have left off Navy and BYU, I think they got this one right by including them.

Most everyone considered the 3 Independents a good fit to be classified as G5 (BYU, Navy and Army) Totaling 63 teams in the vote.

Navy will be in the AAC next year and BYU should still be in the MWC. Army, well they are G5 because they just are. They haven't beaten a team of note in a very long time. It is what it is.

Notre Dame is the only FBS independent formally associated with a P5 conference. This poll is for non-P5 FBS members, and it is important to include the other three independents in this poll.
(Whether they are eligible for the G5's guaranteed "access spot" in the bowl system is another matter - only the five conference champions will be eligible for that particular spot)

I agree.
Though the division may be informal, it does exist. ND is practically an ACC member, and BYU is ex-MWC, Navy future AAC, and Army is just Army.

then I would suggest the more accurate title of G5 + Independents - ND Top 25 Poll.

RE: Historic 1st Preseason G5 Top 25 Football Poll 2014
Here is some additional information regarding the G5 Top 25 Pre-season Poll stats. I have listed the original Pre-season Top 25 below with all 63 teams. Many voters have asked when posting the poll in the future if we could add “Others Receiving Votes”. In the future I will post the next five “Receiving Votes” with the release of the poll.
There were no real surprises in my opinion with the top 10 schools in the poll in fact the entire order. All 10 have received consistent high ratings that are very comparable from other media polls. To have a few comparisons I have posted the Orlando Sentinel and The USA Countdown Polls. The USA has yet to rank Central Florida, Marshall and Boise State so it defiantly fits with our results for this preseason poll.
IMO , I Was very impressed with the lack of "homerism" with the voting pattern of our members. I was proud of the fact that the poll was generally consist with what appears to align with other media preseason predictions.
After we have completed the first three weeks of the season many teams will shift and move around. The opportunity to compare head to head contest for many OOC games will be reflected in those 3 polls,
G5 Top 25 Preseason Poll All 63 School
Orlando Sentinel Poll
The first Colum is Our G5 Top 25 ranking and directly to the right is the ranking of G5 School using the rankings for G5 Teams in the Orlando Sentinel Poll. To the far right you will see the comparison of all Schools Orlando Sentinel Poll ranked G5 and P5.
USA Today Poll
The first Colum is Our G5 Top 25 ranking and directly to the right is the ranking of G5 Schools using the ranking for G5 Teams in USA TODAY. To the far right you will see the comparison of all Schools USA TODAY Poll ranked G5 and P5. Central Florida, Marshall and Boise State have yet to be ranked with the USA poll.

It's UCF not Central Florida and it's been that way for at least 7 years now. One does not call USC, Southern California, or San Diego State, California State University of San Diego (same with Fresno State) or even Nevada is not U of Nevada Reno.

In South Bend, USC will forever be Southern Cal.

As a fan of a school that has their own branding issues(MT or Middle Tennessee, not MTSU) I understand where you're coming from, having said that it is not uncommon at all for people to call USC Southern Cal and people don't call SDSU UCSD because those are two different schools.

Finally someone who realizes it's University of Louisiana and not University of Louisiana at Lafayette.
