Says the guy that thinks Nu metal is legitimate music from that era. This generation has had plenty of good music it was just not as easy access as popular music of the past. The business model changed around Napster IIRC
90% of the new stuff sucks and it really started in the late 90s. There is good music out there, it just isn't top 40, pop culture stuff. Early 90s was probably the best era for popular music in my lifetime. Maybe not from a musical talent standpoint, but at least it was original. Now it just seems to be everyone trying to recreate the New Kids on the Block.

90% of new stuff sucks, and never compares to older stuff for every generation.
I love going back and listening to music from the early to mid 90s, and I remember older people telling me then what Im listening to is garbage.

In a way, it is garbage. There is very little talent needed to produce good grunge music; however, it is catchy and it was original. It isn't bad driving music either. Now, I have a playlist full of grunge that I listen to when I go running. When I am just lounging around or listening to live music, I prefer more instrumental talent, such as Widespread Panic.
My wife is into pop culture music and I'd say I like about 1 in 10 songs she puts on in the car.

It think you nailed it. Gen X was the last original generation. This generation has succumbed to the corporate, generic rap and hip hop genre and they incorporate it into everything. It's very simplistic and plastic.

I think you need to dig a little past the MTV teenie bopper music. I listen to a wide variety of music, about a dozen different pandora stations of modern musicians, and none of them have any influence of generic rap/hiphop. Theres a lot of great indie music out there, then again the word indie probably means liberal to you, so you just ignore everything I say and go back to judging MTV tennie bopper music

Gen Xers didn't have to dig. Everything was cool. Everything rocked and everything was original. This latest generation has really regressed musically.

Metal seems to be the last hold out. Too bad we lost rock and country.
Throughout history, music has merely been a reflection of the culture at the time. Our present culture makes musical trash profitable, which is why we've been getting a never ending cycle of Bieber and Cyrus-like phonies. For there to be a shift in music, there must be a shift in culture.

Unsure what you mean by that... There's a ton of hip hop influence in the lyrics and even the way the singer delivers his words.
