My theory is that the best places to live in the US are all interstate corridors.

I-95 ... if you can get over the hurricanes
I-35 from Dallas to San Antonio
I-5 ... if you can hide your assets out of state
I-15
I-84

and, the subject of the linked article

I-85

I-85 is the spine and economic heart of the deep south. The triangle to Greensboro/Winston-Salem to Charlotte to Greenville-Spartanburg to Anderson-Clemson to Atlanta to Montgomery and close enough to say Birmingham too.

I-84 totally sucks.

I-95- we don't get that much impact from the hurricanes.

People have different things they like, so your list doesn't match mine.

I think by best place to live he just means that those are the best areas for opportunity. Virtually all economic growth is now occurring in cities along major interstate corridors, and this is especially pronounced in Texas, North Carolina, Virginia, South Carolina, and Georgia.

I-84 has some of the best scenery in the whole country. There isn't much population wise in the Oregon part outside Portland, but the Boise to Twin Falls to Logan to Ogden to SLC run is solid.

I-95 covers the entire eastern seaboard of Florida (which I assure you does have hurricane issues) and goes all the way up to Boston. I should clarify I mean I-95 in and south of Richmond.

"Best place to live" is completely subjective and your statement assumes everyone wants to climb a corporate ladder and become part of money driven rat race. If I had to do it all over again, I would have set up an online business outside of an interstate corridor where I can live off of $1,000 per month and bank the rest. Those people seem to be the happiest and also seem to have the largest families and government is much less consequential in their lives.

Your first sentence was correct. The rest not so much. I should add that being in the boonies is antithetical to operating an online business, due to the craptastic levels of service throughout this country.

My criteria to generate the original list was:
- Economic opportunity
- Diversity of economic opportunity
- The ability to be close enough to major cities for major entertainment, major air hubs, and good utility service but far enough away to avoid overbearing government.
- Scenery
- Low cost of living
- (Relatively) low government burden

I thought you meant in CT.

Aha.
