Really, though, college basketball is out of season. Hoops is not a 12-month game.

Football is more (but still not a 12-month game) with a season from August - December + Dec - Feb recruiting period + spring ball.

Basketball is more of a mid-October to May sport, including the two signing periods. Basketball used to 'end' in April but recruiting now stretches an extra month into May with all of the transfers, many coming in May.

June and July don't belong to either sport except EMU made a big splash with the new turf.

Not a big fan of recruiting or Christmas in July (that's marketing since Christmas is a religious holiday). I like my four seasons.

Go EMU FB, go Tigers, go Lions.

I'm awaiting the EMU hoops schedule. I understand it isn't finished yet. Maybe we can get the new roster and schedule together.

I've seen a 22 win season result in so little, I like to see the marketing of the program improve, the EMU FB Facebook page really seems to rolling along great.

I will say this; Chris Creighton is the first coach probably since...Ben Braun, in any sport who understands the IMPORTANCE of marketing and community involvement. For that reason alone, I am becoming a CC and Heather Lyke fan.

I'd be shocked if Lyke doesn't give Murphy an ultimatum: get out and promote your program, or else. Complete apathy and 300 for MAC tourney games: not acceptable.

Amen to your second paragraph Bob.

I doubt we'll be surpassing WMU in the MAC West. They have a big hole at center, but get G David Brown back for a 6th year:

Getting to Price, Bond and Alvano.

Bond certainly played very well at a pretty high level. Hoops in Baltimore is very good and his h.s. has some famous alums.

I don't know much about Alvano's h.s. and the hoops they play. (L.A. area is pretty large and harder to follow than Baltimore).

For frosh a lot depends on how much stiff competition he faced in h.s. and on the AAU circuit. Playing small town hoops is usually a real disadvantage as the jump from h.s. to mid-major (or higher) college hoops is a big step.

RE: Men's Basketball Roster Update? Press Release
Long term I like the potential of both frosh guards and have said that consistently. My concern is with their inexperience ie turnovers, defensive scheme. Having Ross and/or Combs on the roster could have allowed the point guard to redshirt and adjust for a year. We were a plus 20 win game program last year and the best we could do at the guard position is to give our 13th scholarship to walk on. I'm not saying the walk on doesn't deserve a scholarship if they are Div I material. Only the coaching staff would know that. We also didn't have a scholarship to offer Wilson in the end game.

I'm not sure we even have the horses this year not only not to surpass WMU, but Toledo has well and maybe NIU.

When speaking of the differences between the football program and men's basketball program, here's a question to ponder:

Could guys like Glenn Bryant, Raven Lee and James Still play for a coach like Chris Creighton? Do you think Creighton would have even recruited them?

Some food for thought.

We'll jay jones is still on the football team, and he got in trouble his freshman year.

And Creighton offered Jayru Campbell too, so that post really doesn't carry any weight.

You expect Rome to be built in a day. We had a nice 22 win season...after years and years of crap. Why would anyone's opinion change overnight because of ONE decent season? It takes time. Guys like Kampe and Hawkins have been fielding competitive mid major squads for many years, McCallum as well to an extent. We aren't just gonna start out recruiting these guys in this area because of one decent season.

Which is why Murphy went to Baltimore to get a talented kid with some nice offers from a school that went undefeated and won a state championship. And then to California to get a dead eye shooter of a PG. I am kinda annoyed he didn't get an experienced JUCO guard as well, but I'd rather play the freshmen than Jalen Ross. The kid just wasn't very good, experience or not. I wish him the best though. Seemed like a good guy.

Look, I hate sounding like a complete Murphy apologist. I still hate his offense, and I think it cost us more games than I'd like to think about. But he's made us competitive, and has this team set up to be competitive again, yet some of you are ready to fire the guy because he hasn't had a press release or a roster put up yet. I mean, seriously? As Steve has been saying...it's football season. Football trumps all sports, and always will. In the eyes of the school, media, and casual fans. I love college basketball more than any other sport, but I also understand this. Any release, even now, would fall mostly on deaf ears except for us on this board. Just how it is.

Are you sure of that ? The previous staff did, but I'm not so sure the new staff offered.

I thought he camped with us and Creighton offered. I could be wrong. I retract that statement and apologize if I am.
