RE: 2014 PRACTICE NOTES...
Nitz is off to a good start with his coverage of camp. Hopefully he sustains this level and I will be quick to drop my criticism.

You guys should drop the criticism period. I think Nitz does a great job. I think many on here forget this is a small town newspaper, with one beat writer. He usually has twice weekly practice notes during the season, is impartial (like he's supposed to be), and they are supposed to cover all NIU sports.

Who is Shawun Lurry? I don't remember anyone talking about him as a recruit.

Same high school as Tommy (and I think Saffold) so he's a Florida boy. Don't think he was very highly recruited.

I don't remember if we knew his injury, but according to this article he tore his ACL in the spring. It doesn't say when he is supposed to be back and even mention he could red shirt.

I just looked him up because he has looked pretty good at practice. Looks like he initially signed with blinn jc (where cam newton went) and then ended up here instead. Must have qualified and walked on. Same article said he had two picks in the state championship game.

Hope to put up notes after practice, probably later in the evening.

I was surprised that his name is popping up more more than Hallmon's but he's obviously a really good athlete...played both ways in HS and returned kicks for really good programs

RE: 2014 PRACTICE NOTES...
Here are my thoughts from today. Please be aware I'm writing this from my phone so just a forewarning.

-da'ron brown looked real sharp today, he stood out most in mind
-qb is definitely undecided and after today and other reports, I feel confident saying it's a two man race between Hare and McIntosh.(I thought Matt was better today) Maddie is definitely super athletic, but he made a lot of mental mistakes today and that stood out
-RB I didn't get a super good vibe as it was first touch down, but Joel had some nice runs were he was bringing solid contact
- WR as I mentioned Brown. Brescacin only practice half of practice but looked good. TLL had a no contact shirt so he really only did individual drills. David Senior needs to put on quite a few pounds before he plays. He looks super skinny compared to even the small guys. Saffold was really inconsistent but when he had the ball in his hand he was electric. I really wish Beebe was just bigger framed because he is such a polished receiver it would be great if he had size. Blake and Turner will be solid contributors as well
-safety looks good and Brandon Mayes should be a good backup there. CB, Paris Logan looked decent except against Brown, Brooks was very unimpressive. He was schooled by Brown all day and outside of an INT at the end of the day, I don't see him starting. Lurry, Olootu, and Hallmon could all take his spot. Yes, they made some mistakes, but they were much more consistent and made more plays.
- I didn't see much from either lines. Wish I would have paid closer attention to the d line

Oh I forgot, Stingily didn't have crutches, boot, brace or anything. Didn't look like he was limping. Was active helping the TBs. Pure speculation but it could be an upper body injury or I could be wrong, you can walk on a torn ligament you just can't cut and stuff.

He wasn't hanging around with any of the coaches wives was he....03-lmfao Too soon?

That is odd though...even if it was an upper body injury, you would think you would notice him nursing something. I wish we knew...but doesn't matter, whether it was an injury or for off the field purposes, he isn't playing at least the first 4 games.

Thanks for the great report. Bouagnon looked fantastic in spring ball so I expect big things from him.

Agreed...I would think of anyone...Bouagnon will be the one with an increase in reps due to Stingily being injured.

Nitz's notes on practice today, nothin all that informative...

http://www.huskiewire.com/mobile/article.../index.xml

This part did stand out though...

"• NIU has nine true freshmen in the secondary – Tifonte Hunt, Shawun Lurry, Albert Smalls, Will Daniels, Deion Hallmon, Mayomi Olootu, Darion Henderson, Devan Ingram and Jawuan Johnson."

Yes, I did notice quite a few freshman. Johnson was playing safety, I don't know Henderson Ingram or Daniels number so sorry there. Smalls got yelled at quite a bit and looked rusty. Hunt looks good, but I think he's just a level below Lurry, Olootu and Hallmon. A redshirt could help him bulk up a bit.

Outside of Logan and Brooks I think it's almost all freshman they want to play corner. I didn't recognize any sophomores or above on the corner.

RE: 2014 PRACTICE NOTES...
Was hoping Hallmon or Olootu would swipe the other corner spot, and now I do even more.
