Amazing stories of compassion and kindness coming from this emergency. Restaurants giving away their bottled water, people from adjoining communities bringing in water, the city doing yoeman work to get water to the most needy-people are, foor the most part, kind and generous of spirit.

Why rely on Lake Erie for water when you have the Maumee River? Cleveland gets their water from reservoirs up by the headlands of the Cuyahoga River. Why doesn't Toledo have reservoirs along the Maumee? Is it because the land around there is too flat to do it without significant flooding?

If Toledo gets hit with a F4 tornado and a school full of children gets crushed, it's nice to know bg fans will be there to brighten our spirits with their levity. Stay classy.

Went to BG for water. Folks couldn't have been more helpful. I suspect there would be a few idiot Toledo fans who would have like responses to a crisis in BG. The people there were very concerned and compassionate. Thanks to all those who helped out people in need.

The St Lucie and Indian Rivers in Florida had similar problems due to toxic algae blooms.

I don't know why we have no reservoirs but I would assume it's because we have our intake a few miles off shore which provides water year-round and Lake Erie won't be drying up any time soon. I've only known these algae blooms to be a recent problem. We've taken phosphates out of our soap, installed new treatment systems for the waste water, applied no-till farming techniques to reduce farm runoff, so I can't figure out why this is happening. Maybe the pollution we used to dump in the lake kept the algae under control. Personally, I suspect it's the amount of corn we grow for ethanol which requires tons and tons of fertilizer. We need to start using hemp to make ethanol IMO.
