Be the playoff committee: 1995
How about 1995-
1 NEbraska 11-0 B8 champs
2 Florida 12-0 SEC Champs
3 Northwestern 10-1 B10 champs
4 Ohio St 11-1
4 Tennessee 10-1
6 Notre Dame 9-2
7 Colorado 9-2
8 Florida St 9-2 ACC Champs
9 Texas 10-1-1 SWC Champs
Ohio ST and Tennessee were tied for #4 and both were non champs.
Ohio St had BC, Wash, Pitt, and ND OOC
Tenn had ECU(9-3), Okla St, and So Miss OOC
OSU lost last game to Michigan.

yeah but the extra game was BC who was 4-8.
I think them losing last game to Michigan would have been killer.

Buckeyes get the 4th spot. Tennessee was 2-1 vs. ranked teams that year. Ohio St. was 3-1 vs. ranked teams.

I think it's tough when they lost their last game. I think that's going to be a huge determinant in a situation like this. Especially as 2nd team from conference. Think Tennessee would have a very real shot.

That can't be the determining factor. Their last game was (and always is) Michigan. You can't reward Tennessee just for having 2-9 Vanderbilt as their last game (a game Tennessee only won by 12-7, BTW).

I would have picked:
Nebraska
Florida
Northwestern
Tennessee
I wouldn't have picked Ohio State to back into the playoff....

RE: Be the playoff committee: 1995
1- Nebraska
2- Florida
3- Northwestern (Lost to MiaOh but that was a good team, in september, by 2. Several tough wins like ND, tOSU, Michigan, Iowa)
4- Ohio State- More dominant than NW but not champs. Lost by 8 to Michigan but beat BC, UW, ND in noncon as well as some good teams in the B1G.
OUT-
Florida State- ACC champs but lost TWICE and once by double digits to a team that could be a playoff rematch. As bad as the Miami Ohio loss was for NW it's can't be much worse than UVA who lost 4 games. The extra loss is the difference.
USC- PAC10 champs had 2 losses and a tie including a multi score loss to ND who both the B1G teams beat.
Texas- SWC Champs lost badly to ND who the B1G teams beat and tied a mediocre OU team that the Big 8 runner ups beat.
KU, KSU, CU- All had 2 blowout losses to Nebraska and to one another.
Tennessee- One bad blowout loss to Florida. They aren't league champs either. Two good reasons to exclude them to begin with before you look at their struggles against bad Vandy and UK teams.
VT- 2 losses hurts, especially UC by 2 scores. Probably ahead of FSU by virtue of beating a team that knocked off the Noles while sporting the same number of losses along with Big East champion status.

I would have these four conference champs with the best records.
1 NEbraska 11-0 B8 champs
2 Florida 12-0 SEC Champs
3 Northwestern 10-1 B10 champs
9 Texas 10-1-1 SWC Champs

Like it or not, but it will be. Obviously the poll voters thought so- the teams were tied end of the year.
Also- Tennessee hadn't lost since Mid September. on a 8 game winning streak.

I have a hard time putting UT in there after being blown out by a team that Ohio State destroyed.

After Spurrier pantsed them on national tv. HOW you lose matters.

A much weaker than Florida Michigan team dominated Ohio St. Biakabutuka had 313 rushing yards against Ohio St in that last game.

31-23 is domination????
Try 62-37.
Florida was better than Michigan but Michigan was pretty good that year with a 9-3 record before the bowls.

it was 31-15 mid 4th quarter.
Also think that having Manning would have helped Tennessee's case to some degree.

SWC just wasn't that strong that year.
