I do find it somewhat comical, however, that after having been raided to the brink of extinction, and having had to expand with teams that many laugh at having weakened the league, the Big 12 is by some considered to be "gaming the system" or "getting one over" on other P5 conferences by not having a championship game.

Admittedly, the whole "one true champion" thing is an annoying bit of PR (since they do in fact officially anoint co-champions, even if there's a tiebreaker to get any official spoils that would accrue to the champion), but it's also true that there are both advantages and disadvantages of the round-robin vs divisional-plus-CCG setups. When comparing two teams coming from different setups, without examining the teams' actual schedules, you can't definitively label one as tougher than the other.

Now, if one was to consider the idea that other P5 conferences would use a CCG restriction as an attempt to further dilute and weaken the Big 12 (and in so doing perhaps finally pry free one of the few valuable properties they'd like to obtain for their own, or simply reduce the brand equity of the league to bolster their own) that would be a reasonable conspiracy theory. But as has been said elsewhere, it's not as though there was some conspiracy by the league to get rid of such "deadweight" brands as Nebraska and Texas A&M just to get down to a number of teams that would eliminate the CCG.

Phog, the Big 12 asked the ncaa if they could do a ccg with 10 teams, so they probably want to do it.

actually it was the ACC that first proposed being able to have a CCG that was based on the two highest ranked teams in the conference instead of divisions and the Big 12 supported that

but the Big 12 did not propose it first and they have made clear even if it passes that does not mean they will automatically add a CCG

This article is way outdated (January)...nothing will happen on this until after the autonomy vote. I suspect the other conferences will not vote in favor...besides, a conference championship game with only 10 teams that already play each other is the definition of redundant. Sure, rematches happen in a 12 or 14 team conference, but at least that is not guaranteed.

Exactly why no one buys the one true champion rhetoric. It also operates under the assumption that the champion will be undefeated in conference play. How'd that work out for the BE?
