That's exactly what it is.

Not just in athletic department, people in his own program too.

Prevailing wisdom is Kathy is "afraid" to rein him in because he has Dunn in his back pocket.

FWIW, most people are not afraid to work hard. The grumbling usually ensues when those hard working folks see the leader constantly taking credit for their work and failing to make the workers feel like part of the team and appreciated. I have a feeling PJ is that type of a leader, as evidenced by all of his "I" and "me" comments in the past. I've worked with that type before and it gets real old very fast.

I'm hearing similar, didn't make much of it....until now.

I know that I ran into multiple people in the athletic dept last year and almost to a man they though PJ was a pain in the ass and a clown. Didn't have much nice to say about him. I think he rubbed a lot of people the wrong way when he came in and basically just pushed and got whatever he wanted. I haven't talked with any of those folks lately so I can't say of any opinions have improved or changed.

Unless your name is Rhonda Stryker I really can't see people in the athletic department sharing a negative opinion of a head coach. They're about staying employed and collecting a pension. Not so much about spreading gossip that could get a letter of reprimand in their file.

Not going to name names, because our conversations weren't really meant to be put out there. But I can tell you with 100% honesty that SEVERAL people in the athletic department have shared negative opinions of the head coach on SEVERAL occasions with me. The staying employed part is one of the reasons I wont mention any names.
As for making the staff work harder Stampede. I don't believe that these folks were directly part of the group that would have to work harder for PJ. But they are privy to some of the demands and entitled attitude etc that PJ brought with him when he arrived. That has rubbed a lot of people very much the wrong way.

My answer to this even if it is true is a big so FUKING what?!!! God WMU fans are some of the biggest whiny vaginas on the planet. Ewww, he is hurting feelings. I could give a crap how many eggs he breaks, because from my perspective they needed to be.

You know, Bill Cubit had a lot of his own players hate him, as well as some of his staff. Again, this isn't out of the norm, but let's act like we got to keep holding Fleck to completely different standards because he seems to really like boating references.

Actually those "issues" were brought up as a negative quite often about the prior coach.

Why is it against your rules to have similar discussions about the current one? He's a protected class?

Yes...04-rock

I don't use protection. And neither does our Bronco head coach.

I've got a boat that needs rowing. Have a nice afternoon.

To piggy back on the "internal rumblings" comment. I'm pretty close with a member of the athletic dept. they said a clear divide, the anti PJ is a bit larger. Most of those anti PJ are head coaches of minor sports, who have been forced to change things (workout schedules etc) that they've been doing for years, because it conflicted with PJs needs. A lot of petty stuff really. With the struggles of last season, its turned into more if a "see, he's got no clue how to be a head coach" type of feel.

With that said there are several pro PJ people, who largely believe in the plan, and love the energy.

Either way its an unhealthy environment in the dept, certainly not all rowing the same way.

SYF, Thank you for saying this! Talk is about Fleck but this goes on in MOST football programs. I know some of you think Fleck would be more entitled to act this way when he starts winning...come on it is the nature of this job. People would be whining it Fleck was too much of a "sweetheart" too.

I don't really care about the other small programs...who supports them anyways? That is just life...fans LIKE football not the "underwater basket weaving team". (I know that's not a team but not trying to single anyone out) Once our football program starts winning again and Fleck puts butts in seats at Waldo, which program do you think will be helping to support those small programs? We are lucky that we have had a solid Hockey and M Basketball Teams right now that have their own solid fan base.

Row the FN Boat People! Football team wins, all our other programs will benefit!

Can't disagree with anything there. PJ didn't owe other coaches anything, but did owe his bosses a clear vision. Too bad if feelings get hurt.

With all these people who are "dialed in" to the grumbling in the athletic department I'm surprised we have to wait on DD for anything. We have our own little National Enquirer right here.

I always put me ear to the screen when Doo/BL/DB bring us the latest updates on the WMU Athletic Dept., live from Cheyenne, Wyoming.

I heard Dave Corstange is our version of Deepthroat. Rimshot

But seriously, some of the spouses of athletic department employees have some interesting insights.

It is so cool that Chuck Norris, who was born in Oklahoma, lives in Texas, and has no connection to WMU (or state of Michigan for that matter) posts on Stampede.

I have heard it from 2 different people that have NEVER said anything negative in the past. One of them had a few on the 4th and was telling everyone how much she hated him and that she "bullies" Kathy.

Believe what you want but I have heard these same things first person and it was not about working people hard, it was about being an azz and a bully.
