I'd compare the P5 more to Walmart vs the American... they're trying to strong-arm any smaller competitors out of the contention. Then they're going to start selling far inferior products to what we had before. Bastards.

First rule in looking at the future of college sports: don't listen to the coaches.

Many coaches have talked about realignment and I have yet to here any of them actually reveal something. Saban would love a very tough schedule, but the Alabama AD isn't going to give up 7 home games. Ten Big Ten games were discussed, but they couldn't justify loosing the 7th home game. Nothing has changed in that light.

Similarly, division 4 never seemed to be treated as anything but a last ditch plan for the power 5 if they didn't get anything and they have gotten some autonomy and signed a 12 year deal with the CFP involving all 10 FBS conferences.

Division 4 is coming whether we separate or not.

More conference games = less P5 vs G5
P5 requiring at least one P5 OOC= less P5 vs G5
Bowls aligning with mostly P5 conferences = less P5 vs G5

More conference games also equals less homes games unless the schedule expands to 13 games. I still believe that an 8 team playoff and a 13 game schedule is the next logical stop for college football once they figure out how to give in a bit to the players.

When it's all said and done I believe the AAC and the MWC (or some sort of combination of both) will be in the D4 if it does come about.

CUSA, Sun Belt, MAC will not.

Exactly. A lot of these AD's need 7 or 8 home games... 10 conference games means you have to have BOTH OOC games at home to get 7, and 8 is out of the question.

RE: P5 trending toward more conference games? (also Div 4?)
The SEC has on their schedule this fall 56 OOC games and 56 Conference games. 47 of 56 OOC games are vs non P5 competition. Not surprisingly, 47 of 56 OOC games are also played at home. There is no way the SEC, or any other power conference, is going to replace 47 games that currently have easily overmatched opponents at home with more evenly matched opponents that will insist on H/H scheduling agreements. That's lost revenue on 19 home games plus the cost of 19 additional road games. Not to mention the number of losses that are guaranteed to increase.

All of this talk about exclusion is a bluff to make the G5 feel like they should be grateful for the tremendous sacrifices the P5 is making for them. Don't fall for it. If they didn't want half of the league to be a Mom and Pop to their Microsoft they could fix it easily by eliminating the"P5" and "G5" labels and distributing the revenue from the CFP contract evenly to all 10 conferences. Don't engineer a deal that gives you an extra $900m over 12 years and then turn around and blame the ones you short changed with not being able to keep up financially.
