NIU vs BYU
One of the few times I have actually been impressed with NIU's scheduling.

The article mentions the possibility of BYU scheduling more MAC teams in the future, would love to see a matchup between the Rockets & the Cougars.

They have also added a home and home with Utah.

BYU is certainly a quality and respected program, I'm all for a series with the Cougars.

This is great news for NIU. Lets face it their home scheduling was terrible. They played a light schedule and that was part of the reason they didnt get as much as respect as they should because the last few years they only played about two teams a year with a winning record and then ended up losing MAC championships and bowl games. This will help them be more prepared for teams that are better competition then in the past. That being said, they have been better then us, unfortunately.

Apparently they have another big name team being announced today as well.

Their winning ways of the past several years and their BCS bowl appearance has helped build the support necessary for them to be able to put together good schedules. Good things happen to teams that consistently win.

Plus the P-5 want to play better "mid-majors" and would be understanding that NIU is leading the MAC mid majors as of now so a hot item.

Actually their new AD is doing this. He has been on the job one year. Also going in his favor is that strength of schedule is now a big part of getting into the playoff so NIU and everyone else needs to lay off scheduling FCS teams. Their past AD was terrible in my opinion.

For scheduling, definitely. Our home OOC schedule had been horrific for a decade and we'll still have the lingering effects of that for several more years in upcoming schedules. I've heard a few other issues about that AD but I didn't know him personally. I can't believe this new AD was able to do a 180 on the scheduling philosophy.
