All of this means nothing until the actual games are played - in the years prior to Brian Kelly - how often was ND ranked and a complete flop in the season? These rankings are all about fluffing up the media darlings to try to garner more tv rankings for the talking heads who - literally - have nothing else to talk about. I think I even heard a guy on ESPN today say something along the lines of "these rankings are not worth more than the paper they are printed on - but it does give us something to talk about"

I always find it funny how there are a few teams every year who make it onto the preseason polls on the basis of their record against literal piles of **** and large human sized cones the year before. This year it's ULL, Marshall, and NIU, they honestly don't deserve a single vote.

Where does this list come from? Why does it even exist? It just serves to institutionalize the have-nots by separating us out from the "Power" conference schools. All part of the master plan to create another division I suppose...

That's not what AZBCAT meant. He meant "Why is anyone pulling the G5 schools out of the rest of the list for a separate list?"

It is as if they made a list of mid-majors in the college basketball poll. It reinforces the notion of the inferiority of the non-P5 schools.

Its just a measure (albeit a mostly useless one , as any preseason poll is) of where we stand against the other G5 schools as we fight against these schools for the one Access Bowl slot given to us .

Unless we plan on going undefeated and ranked amongst or close to the top 4 in college football , our life in Novemeber/December will be watching and rooting against schools like Marshall , Boise St and ULL to get to the Access Bowl

And that's the frustration. Plus, if you're not ranked you don't get as many highlights on ESPN, etc. We can call the poll stupid (it is), but it's also really important.
