RE: If Marshall loses a conference game this season
Looking at the breakout of home/road games it's gonna be hard for Marshall to lose a conference game. The likely 4 toughest teams they play are the home games and Marshall is probably 3 to 4 TD's better at home than on the road.

Agreed. I know MT will be ready to play and to be honest I think the team and the fans are starting to look at it like a rivalry game.

RE: 12-0 comment...

I also agree. FSU has a 'tough-ish' schedule this year and I am still hoping that we (Miami) beat them in Miami. I will cheer as loud as I can to make sure that happens.

Last years game threw a ton of gasoline on a small flame. I agree it could become a rivalry.

What does history say about the fate of C-USA's presumed pre-season undefeated teams?

So, if Marshall returns a team that was 5 scores better than ECU, then by your estimate Akron is easily 6 touchdowns better than ECU? Just trying to gauge how strong you think Akron is?

Ugh, these kind of threads make me nervous.

The conference has shown an amazing competitiveness over the last several years.

I am just ready for them to put on the uniforms and play. I hate the hype.

RE: If Marshall loses a conference game this season
ODU needs 2 things to happen:

1. The defense needs to be much improved. All reports look good on that front, but if they don't come together as a team, there is no way we can outscore the Herd.

2. Heinicke needs to be on. While he still tends to but up good numbers on his off games, there are times where he has trouble getting out of 3rd and long situations and this year might be more difficult with essentially a new OL. If he plays like he did @ECU last year, look out.

That said, we are not going to shut down the Herd. We can hope to contain them and if we can get some stops on 3rd down (ie Cato would have to be off a little) and Heinicke is having an A game, a 35-31 type game is not out of the question. I certainly wouldn't predict it, but that is how the upset would likely look if it happens.

I think Akron(which is a different universe than Kent), but don't quote me on that 04-cheers

I think they are just pulling your chain! As an old MT alum who had two relatives play football at WKU; I can tell you that most MT and WKU folks over the age of 50, say "Western" and "Middle" when referring to these two hallowed institutions.

No worries. I just hate it when people lump Akron and Kent together in any way. 04-cheers

I did not want to come here and say that. However since it got brought up....

IMO, there are two games to worry about. The first one is the Akron game. Akron is not exactly stiffs anymore and if this does not turn into a Marshall Home Game(they will travel to Akron because of the West Virginia connection in this city), it could turn into a shootout.

The second one is Southern Miss. if they are undefeated at that point, they might outright look past them. I know that they fell off a cliff, but they will be on the upswing because they have nowhere to go but up and this is the perfect game to do it in.
