Pappy's Predictions - #10
#10 - Georgia Southern

There is not much differentiation in the next few slots, it appears. But I assume that a team that was 6-10 in the 30th ranked Southern Conference will have some initial problems in the 19th ranked Belt.

WHAT I LIKE:
They return three of their top four scorers, which is a good start. They shoot the ball OK, not great, and are just about even with opponents in rebounding. So their stats are not awful. Jelani Hewitt returns after averaging 19.5 ppg and shooting 36% from the arc and 83% from the line, so he is their focal point.

WHAT I DON'T LIKE:
They lost their two most experienced post players (both 6-7). Their tallest players are 6-8, which is not terrible, but outside of transfer Trent Wiedeman, they have no experience with size.

Hewitt and Wiedeman are two good building blocks, and this team could easily surprise. But they are stepping up just a little in competition, and the first year probably will be rough. A middle-of-the-pack team in the Southern logically will fall a little the first year in the Belt.

They might have fared better in the Sun Belt if their star from 2012-2013, Eric Ferguson, who redshirted in 2013-2014 hadn't got in legal trouble this summer.

Yes, I saw that. And you are correct, they would have been higher.

My next six picks are going to be largely shots in the dark. Just too many unknown factors.
