More new facilities at ucf
It looks like we will have be starting on these projects soon. It's gratifying to see donations providing the most lift.

Does the loss of 685 seats for the premium seating and the addition of the deck increase or decrease the overall capacity? Seems like many are foregoing getting bigger for a higher quality experience.

Temporarily yes. Phase two is an upper deck that will increase capacity to 55 k

I still can't believe they want to add another level that would be directly in the sun. Nobody wants to sit on that side.

They won't...UCF is in no rush to add another general seating deck, especially East Side...as all of their priorities are focused on REVENUE increasing amenities, i.e. new Club Tiki Deck, expansion or another club/suite tower, etc....all which would be built before a 3rd East side deck ever gets built.

IMO opinion it's five years away or when we start hitting capacity. The tower will be built around the same time. They want to build a new FB ops building and work on the baseball stadium first

Maybe they'll do something like use the two towers to anker the overhead covering for the upper deck. It would be a huge add as it would help keep the sun out of the facilities thus lowering the energy costs as well as help keep the sun off the fans. You know like retractable awnings. Just a thought.

I don't think they will even consider adding the upper decks until the demand is there, even if we have the money, which we don't. Plus they will likely expand Roth Tower to add more suites (more $$$) long before they add more regular seating. I think demand for more suites is probably already there since Roth Tower only provides a limited # of them, but that'll be a pricey addition/renovation. It's in the long range master plan, but IMO the upper decks will TBD for longer than 5 years, especially if our ability to schedule "big" games at home continues to dwindle.

I've mentioned several times on UCF Boards on how it would be cool if BHNS had some retractable awnings, similar to what the Romans did at some of their Coliseums where they have shade awnings/panels on some type of pully system that could be pulled over the crowd below.

Believe they are/were called Velariums.

There was a scene in Gladiator that showed something like that in one of their coliseum scenes.

The demand is there for Roth towers. I am betting that we may do it sooner due to growth 5 years at 15k a year or b12 move. Jmo

Exactly however, the ones we have today are ultra light and can withstand high winds and heavy rains. The trick is to have them all up or all down because only when their all in the up position are they truly strong as they reinforce eachother. It also lessens the chance of the wind shearing them. Anyway, yeah that would be a great move. 07-coffee3

Especially if we keep getting stuck with noon kickoffs. "The Wok" is pretty damn brutal at noon the first 6 weeks or so of the season.

I know the idea has been inquired about to UCF officials, but IIRC, there is a concern about meeting hurricane codes or something. But I'm no structural engineer.

It's my understanding that awnings of any sort are very non-hurricane safe. Especially the giant wind sails that are being tossed around here.

Shadows are a huge problem with them. Look at how awful U-Washington's field can be:

That's why they would have to be retractable...used only 6-7 times a year.

The projected 19,000 seat MLS Stadium in Orlando will have the $$$ for their shaded grandstands...but UCF doesn't have $$$ like that now...but maybe a retractable shade/sail system could be implemented in the future (maybe after new suite/club towers are built).
