Rick Cerrone is a brilliant man and one of NIU's most dedicated alums. He is active on the Alumni Association Board. He is always to be commended for his efforts. Great stories as well if you ever get a chance to meet him.

It has bothered med for a long time, and I have posted here, that the lack of NIU "stuff" in downtown was awful, great to see everyone finally collaborating.

It really sucks how segregated NIU and DeKalb are from each other. Sadly, there's no real nightlife or activities downtown that would bring in the college kids though. Somebody needs to build a nice bar down there somewhere to connect the two.

Yep. Maybe on the western side of Downtown. Not just some "dive" either.

For those that know the Champaign area close to campus. A place like the Firehouse would be perfect. Big, open, great food, TV's all over. A place you can take your parents and then later in the evening can get taken over by the "kids".

I think part of the Pres new campus plan is to somehow attach the east side of campus to the dekalb downtown. It has not gone unnoticed that the town has to become more of a part of the campus

Couldn't O'Leary's be that place. It is not a dive like Otto's or Uprising. Fattys is still my favorite place.

It could be, but it's not. It's just really tough for bars to succeed in DeKalb for whatever reason. NIU has about as crappy of a nightlife as you'll ever see for a college town, which is sad. Fatty's is succesful, Molly's does pretty well, but other than that there's just garbage.

I should note I've never been to Rosy's, but the last couple years of Starbusters was just pathetic.

Always thought Uprising was pretty classy. Can't say the same about Otto's.

Downtown bars as a whole have never recovered since the bars near campus opened a number of years ago.

My senior year, we went to Stanley's for pitchers and pizzas at least once a month before hitting Fatty's or Molly's up on a Thursday. Had there been more college type bars downtown it would have been a great spot. It has a great feel, just not good establishments.
