Great video. I graduated in 2004, and basically every building shown from 0:15 to 1:00 of that video was not there when I left campus. Our University has undergone an incredible amount of growth. Proud to be among a number of other growing universities in CUSA.

UNC Charlotte, UNC Greensboro, and USC Upstate all probably need to jettison being controlled by a competing entity and go stand alone public.

We are standalone. There are no satellite schools in NC. We are every bit as independent as NC State, ECU, App State, or any other public school without UNC in their name.

The fact that you believe this implies that we are a satellite school is exactly why many of Charlotte's fans wish that the University would seek a name change. The athletics dept. officially did this in 2000 or 2001 to avoid the constant confusion with UNC, but there still exists confusion because the University continues to use UNC Charlotte as it's official name. (Ref. Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, official university name vs. Virginia Tech, official athletics name, for what we have attempted to do in branding our athletics as "Charlotte".)

However, those outside of North Carolina with limited knowledge of how our state university system operates, continue to erroneously assume that we are a satellite institution of UNC-Cheat.

It's a bit of a issue, but it continues to rear its head every year.

People inside the state continue to think this as well. The only thing that will change it is to change the name.
