Arkansas Message Board
This sums up the majority of Arkansas' fans opinions on playing us.

Quote:You know, my first reaction was to come here and post about how NIU could be a surprisingly good team, and how we should respect all of our opponents after ULM and our close run-in with Samford. But… no. Just no. It's about time we got respect for our team and program back. I'm not going to flinch at the likes of NIU. Not simply because "they're NIU and we're in the SEC," it goes deeper than that if you do some basic research.

They played FOUR teams that went 1-11 last year, and a fifth team that went 2-10. And then they played an FCS opponent - which was actually a pretty good FCS team, but FCS nonetheless. I mean, that's so freaking pathetic of a schedule that it's nearly unbelievable. They beat an 8-5 Iowa team @Iowa, a 10-3 Ball State team, and a 7-5 Toledo team @Toledo. Those are their marquee wins. Who couldn't go 12-2 with that kind of schedule?

Then let's look at their 2012 squad. FCS victory. Three more teams that went 1-11. Another two teams that went 2-10. That's six victories in another 12-2 season they earned simply by showing up.

How about their 11-3 2011 team? Two of their three losses were to a 2-10 Kansas and 3-9 Central Michigan. Then they go on to beat six teams without winning records.

2010 saw another "impressive" 11-3 run. One of their losses was to Iowa State, who failed to make a Bowl. Then they racked up their yearly FCS victory, and beat seven more teams without winning records (including multiple 1-11, 2-10, 3-9 teams. You know the drill).

These guys play in the MAC. This kind of schedule is a yearly occurrence for NIU, and they've only fairly recently climbed out of the ranks of perennial losing records themselves. This team is soft, guys. This team is incredibly soft. Maybe we won't put them away as drastically as we should. Our team won't be a good team, and we have many kinks to work out. After all, Southern Miss and Samford held on for a remarkably long time. But make no mistake, we WILL put this team away nonetheless.

Typical bottom-of-the-barrel SEC mentality. "We might be the worst SEC team but we're still better than any other team NOT in the SEC because....well....we're the SEC!"

They need to talk to Alabama about us. It will be a very competitive game. I hope their fans take us lightly. nothing better than to read all the sour grapes when they lose to us. A simple pleasure in life.

I suspect NIU will knock the mole off Bielema's beerbelly.

A lot of that isn't that inacurrate. Obviously the soft part is laughable and wrong, but we do beat a lot of bad teams every year. If I was an SEC fan playing NIU at home, I would fully expect to win. I'm also sure they're not thinking they're going to be as ****** as they were last year. If you put Iowa and Arkansas on a neutral field last year, I don't think there's any doubt Iowa would win so clearly NIU can be Arkansas.

Talking about a game that's not until Week 4 when we don't even know who will be playing QB for NIU seems kinda dumb though.

Is he implying that the ABSOLUTE worst team could play Alabama every week, and be ranked #1 because of the SOS?

A lot of what he says is true, but they haven't beat anyone decent in like 2 years. They beat a top notch sun belt team (basically middle of the pack MAC team) FCS team and an awful southern miss last year. This NIU team will be worse than last year, but still one of their better non conference opponents, including the teams that upset them like ULM.

Not saying NIU should be favored, but unless this NIU team is much worse than I think or Arkansas is much better than they were, nobody is beating the brakes off the other.

Yeeeep. I understand their rationale for possibly winning, but for more than 3/4ths of them to predict a blowout is a little absurd. Ehh, oh well.

Hogville is a cesspool, my advice is to steer clear of that place. It's filled with rednecks and people who live in the Delta, whereas the actual university is located up in the northwest corner of the state in the mountains.

Yeah even a lot of Arkansas fans don't like Hogville. They thought we'd beat Rutgers pretty easily last year too.

I think this will be a tough game. We know you guys have had some talent...Jimmy Ward is a better DB than anyone we've had in the last 8 years lol. We should be better this year but the NIU game comes after a tough, hot away game vs. Texas Tech and before our first conference game against A&M.

Can't say I'm too upset about Lynch not being there anymore though

I thought the first conference game was the opener vs. auburn? Outside of Nichols state, looks like a tough start. Road games at A&M, auburn, and tech. Not to mention, hosting the pesky huskies.

Yeah you're right. Somehow I keep forgetting we play them the first game of the year...weird playing a conference game like that. Don't think we've ever done that before.
