This article and the ones attached to it I believe are what I was reading this weekend.

When you read he comments in that article it reminds me of the mindset I saw growing up in Battle Creek. Always looking at the potential downside, seeing the glass half empty, ragging on the people putting their own money up for the project, asking what's in it for me, and on and on.

Hopefully, Detroit will come back in spite of the losers who are too worried about someone else succeeding. For them they rather have equality of misery.

Dude is spending his own money on infrastructure! This is the definition of Battle Creek...

I had a family member who owned 13 Little Ce's pizza franchises. He sold them just before they went to the $5 carryout model. He loved the old man's vision, but thought the kids weren't quite as wise or as altruistic as pops.

The elder Illich is 85. Hopefully he lives long enough and stays mentally healthy enough to see this through, because once the fortune is passed down and the family infighting begins, Dad's vision may fall by the wayside.

For the 1%, buy low sell high comes into it. Detroit is a good location in a decent region and adjacent to lots of human talent, natural resources, water transport. And the bankruptcy presumably solving some of the nagging legacy costs.

It's definitely a buy low situation there with lots of potential if you can get past the fear and stereotypes from the riots and white flight that are now 40+ years in the past. Not exactly a clean sheet of paper, but there is a canvas there if you have the vision and capital to implement it.

I still have buildings in the city, very excited to have the area around Henry Ford Hospital come back the way it has, just booming.

I was directed from the MLive comments to the Stampede from BroncoLifer when he was using his other more famous ID.

True story.
