RE: Summer Q & A with Head Coach Tod Kowalczyk
Good interview. Coach K gets into specifics without typical clichés.

Q: Last year’s freshman class of Zach Garber, Jordan Lauf and Jonathan Williams each made solid contributions. What areas are you looking for each of them to improve in?

Coach Kowalczyk: Zach has to do a better job of finishing around the basket. He is getting stronger which I think will help him become a better post defender. Jordan has to become a better shooter, and Jon-Jon has to be a little more consistent defensively. If those three guys can all improve in those areas, then it will really help our program.

On point with all three Rockets.

Q: What type of contributions are you expecting from this year’s incoming freshmen?

Coach Kowalczyk: I see both freshmen competing for minutes right away. Stuckey Mosley is a versatile guard who can shoot it, handle it and make very good decisions. He’s patient and a very smart player. Kurt Hall reminds me a lot of (former Rocket) Rian Pearson at that same stage. He’s just a hard-playing, high-energy, high-motor guy.

Another Rian Pearson…wow!

It would be great if Aparicio and Aubrey Williams actually contribute this year. That would give us the deepest team yet under Coach K.

Barring injuries, only nine guys are likely to contribute - maybe 8, maybe 10. We have 7 coming back who played regularly last year, plus the transfer, who will be eligible in mid-December. Before Applewhite gets eligible, some guys may get a chance to prove that they belong in the rotation. Unless you're pressing for 40 minutes, there's just no reason to play more than 10 guys, even if the roster is deep.
