SOT: Dish vs DirecTV for College Football Fans
We know when it comes to NFL, DirecTV is the "winner" cause of Sunday ticket, but what if you're more of a college football fan?

Let's disregard ESPNs, CBSSN, NBCSN, FS1, and RSNs cause both have all of those channels.

BTN - Both carry it
Pac 12 Networks - Dish only
SEC - Dish only (at the moment, DirecTV still has time to make a deal)
LHN - Dish only (unless the whole Disney package is renewed with a SEC deal, DirecTV won't have it until 2015 likely)

Doesn't bother me to not have the conference networks, and I'd rather DirecTV not increase my bill just to provide those. If they acquire the rights, it should be on a sports tier or preferably on its own tier.

If DirecTV charges me one cent for the SEC Network I will cancel.

RE: SOT: Dish vs DirecTV for College Football Fans
I've had Dish Network for about 14 years now and love it. Every now and then I used to think about going to DirecTV and would price shop but every time Dish was less for equivalent packages and everyone I knew with DirecTV had some type of customer service problem at times which is the reason I dumped cable. I used to have to go to the local casino sports book to watch some games I wanted to see but in recent years with the expansion of football and basketball coverage on TV I've been able to watch every game I wanted to from the comfort of my recliner.

RE: SOT: Dish vs DirecTV for College Football Fans
I had Dish for about 16 years. Loved it when we played on Fox the ALT. channels, etc. However, once we switched to AAC with all the games on an ESPN network, did not need the extra stations.Switched over to Suddenlink because it was a lot cheaper and I could bundle. Still have CBSCS and some Fox stations.I also like it because now I have ESPNNEWS and ESPNU in HD. They may have added them to Dish, but did not have it when I switched over last year. I am going to see how it goes during the season. I still have 4 months left of the 9 months they gave me to switch back for free and basically pay nothing for everything for 2 years. They begged me to stay for about 30 minutes when I switched offering me the world to stay with Dish. My dad had Direct. It was ok, but neither of us cares for the NFL games, so that was not an issue. Probably stay with Dish if I was choosing and had no other services to bundle. Dish seemed to have an advantage over the number of football games offered. I am saving about 35.00 a month with Suddenlink.

The conference networks are on the sports tier unless you're in a state where one of the conference teams are then 120+

And the bills increase regardless of what gets added.

Are you trying to get the 3 referrals for the free PS4? I'm having the hardest time trying to find 3 people...

If you stick with Dish, you should go for the free PS4 promo.

Dish has had HD for 90% of the ESPN/Disney block since this spring. This included gaining Goalline/Buzzerbeater, SEC, LHN, etc

So I would take Dish up on their offer they gave you, sounds like a damn sweet offer.

RE: SOT: Dish vs DirecTV for College Football Fans
I have been a Dish customer for at least 16 years. I am happy that the SECN brought HD back to ESPNU and ESPNNews although it unfortunately brought the LHN along with it. Having the SECN, I will be able to see the Missouri game. The one big thing that I am happy with having Dish is that I can put recorded material on external hard drives which allows me to save the games without losing them by running out of space on the DVR. I am not sure that you can do this with the other choices.

Do you have a hopper or one of the VIP models? If you're running out of space, you should upgrade to the hopper it has a ton more space and the EHD you're using will be able to connect right to it so you won't lose your old recordings.

And to be honest, HD was coming back this contract regardless, just so happens it was also the year SECN launched.

I switched from cable to Dish awhile ago. After some tech problems I went to Direct. After all sorts of problems I went back to Dish, have been back for 3 years now with the Hopper & havent had a single issue. I recommend staying away from Direct, had installation and service problems with them.

How do you put your recordings on an EHD with the Hopper?

Well, I have already sent them a letter telling them my opposition to paying for the SEC Network as part of the main tier that I have on DirecTV. It had damned well better be part of a sports tier. I don't want a dime of mine going to UF athletics.

Then you should cut the cord as you're paying for ESPN who pays SEC who pays Florida...

ESPN also pays the AAC. The SEC Network is a different deal.
