Listen to this:

at 7:20 in i think Tommy Tuberville said Nippert stadium will have 45,000 seats. there is no way they are fitting that many in right?

Sure, just officially make each spot in the student section two inches narrower. Viola! Extra seats!

I'm thinking we'll be closer to 42,000 when it's all said and done, and I'd be more than fine with that.

That's what I am guessing, much like we are at 35k but SRO of 36+, we will be listed at 40 or 41 but will sell up to 42 or 43.

Seats don't matter.

Revenue matters and the club seats bring new revenue.

Seats do matter for atmosphere and recruiting. I'm sure players like playing in front of as many people as possible too. I'd be thrilled with 45,000 if true because I was expecting barely 40,000 after renovation. The atmosphere of 45,000 will be amazing during sell outs. It will make the stadium louder for a better home field advantage. It definitely matters maybe just not much for athletic department revenue.

I repeat.

Seats are not added to appease the student athlete.

Revenue matters most.

Revenue is what matters. Worrying about the exact size is a waste of time because that type of thinking is based on the revenue model from the 1980's and 1990's. Yes, I understand the argument that a bigger stadium helps on the perception side of things but once you cracked 40,000 you have a long way to go to reach the next level. In my view 40,000 seats is roughly in the category as 55,000 seats. They are both medium size football stadiums which is what we probably want Nippert to be viewed as.

Agree ultimately about revenues and club seats. A list of all NCAA Division 1 FBS football stadiums (128 total) shows an average capacity of 52,489 (median 50,000). As has been discussed on previous threads, you don't want a large stadium that is not filled with screaming loud butts in the seats (e.g., Temple, South Florida) but it certainly doesn't hurt perception-wise for UC's renovated capacity to get closer to the national average IMO. FWIW, I didn't realize Oregon's Autzen Stadium has a capacity of only 54,000. However, the record attendance is slightly over 60,000.

I totally disagree about atmosphere. I've been to multiple 100k+ stadiums and none match the atmosphere of a sold out 35k Nippert.

Exactly. I'd say a sold out Nippert equates to a sold out stadium double its size (so 80k once the renovations are complete).

Plus when it comes to perception, who really cares about a few ignorant fans focusing on "stadium size"? For those people who you really want to impress (at this point P5 conference brass), stadium size is like 8th on the list of importance behind TV market size, school size, financial stability, traditions, and a whole host of other factors.

Students dont care. Pack em in and raise the number of student tickets. Capacity doesn't matter if we can't fill it. Students show for football.

Seems like I hear members saying meaningful levels are 40, 60, 80, 100. I am happy we will be over 40,000 and at $2,500 a club seat that makes them worth at least 15 of the real cheap seats.

I cannot wait to enjoy the new seats but hope it won't be filled with fans that never holler, whistle etc.

Yep. As I remember, in 2009 someone took decible meters to all the major college stadiums and two places broke the thing due to the intensity of noise: LSU's stadium and the Nip.

Exactly. That's why the new addition is focused more on suites and premium seating and not raw numbers of seats. Much more cost effective. It's very expensive to do work on this stadium due to it's location. It's doesn't make much economic sense to invest millions in a bunch of general seating which would have a limited return on investment.

more than that...we need revenue generation to keep up in the new world of NCAA and this move by UC to add REVENUE generating seats rather than general seating for the sake of adding capacity shows true vision and that UC "gets it". I applaud UC. We may have come to the party a little late, but we are making all the right moves right now.
