Similarly, privately-owned daily Al-Dustur's headline proclaims in red letters: "A heavy surprise: John Kerry subject to strict inspection procedures before his meeting with Al-Sisi".

The paper complements the report with a photo showing Kerry passing through the security scanner at the doors of Al-Ittihadiyah Palace.

And, again in red ink, private daily Al-Yawm al-Sabi adds to its headline: "Bravo Sisi"

State-owned newspapers echo their private brethren: "Checking Kerry

Commenting on Al-Shuruq's official Facebook page, Said Hashim said that Egypt was the only country standing up to US-Israeli "plots".

"Egypt is still the leader of the Arab countries," he wrote.

Pictures and a video showing the "frisking" have been widely circulated on Facebook and Twitter, provoking thousands of comments.

Most carry a general air of satisfaction with the snub to Mr Kerry, which is reflected in comic pictures created to reflect the unusual procedure.

Users have also taken the opportunity to air their distrust of the US as a "spying country".

"Kerry is sad he and his aides have been inspected, so what? You inspect entire countries for a lie that you say and believe. Let us use our right #Kerry_checked," wrote Twitter user Usama Awad (‏@Osamawad_4), who has more than 2,500 followers.

Egyptian twitter user Nadia @Belovedegy, who has more than 67,000 followers, commented: "#Kerry_checked is a message in itself to the USA that it is a spying country and, hence, we must be sure that its officials are not carrying spying devices."

And in the same vein, twitter user Amr A (‏@BIG_MR_A) wrote: "Checking Kerry is a message to the USA that there is a lack of trust between us #Kerry_checked."

Wait. I thought the whole world loved us now?!? Wasn't it all receding oceans, planet healing? All that kind of thing? Don't these guys even remember the fake Greek columns?!? C'mooooon. wattup?

Now we're humiliated on the international stage by our estimable Sec of State getting a TSA style pat down. Small ball indeed.

Thanks obama.

The dirty secret of advocates of a one-state solution is that this is about the time that Sharia would kick in... when the Arab population breeds itself into a majority. Palestinians have long referred to 40 years off, which is about two generations, which is about the time that it would take for the Palestinian population in Gaza and the West Bank to outnumber Jews in Israel.

It's telling that Israel would accept an Egyptian cease-fire plan but reject Kerry's. Goes to show how much influence the US has these days in the world.

Israel is not going to accept a cease-fire with troops on the ground in Gaza. They need to maintain the offensive or they become vulnerable. What really distinguishes the two cease-fire plans is that one is before the ground invasion, one is after it began.

That said, it's remarkable that Kerry doesn't see the problem with requesting it at this stage.

RE: ISREAL REJECTS KERRY CEASE-FIRE PLAN
Israel rejected it because Kerry's plan (Obama's, The US) plan calls for the Israeli military to cease destroying Hamas' tunnels for the duration of the cease-fire. Allowing Hamas to rearm and move the existing cache of weapons and rockets.

But that pretty much explains the Obama administrations policies.

You can't continue to occupy areas where 99 percent of the population doesn't want you there forever. Even the Europeans had to quit their colonies. Israel has occupied the Palestinian lands for almost 50 years. Many Palestinians have been barred from their homes for close to 70.

The reality for the Palestinians is that they live in jail camps. They can't move in and out of them. They can't even move between them.

The Palestinians aren't going anywhere. They also aren't going to have a better economic situation or any stake whatsoever in maintaining stability if all that means is more land grabs by Israel.

And the worst day for Israel is in 2025 or so, is when the Palestinians say. Ok.. a two state solution is unviable. Here's your choice

1) Granting Israeli citizenship to all residents of Gaza and the West Bank, thus making Arabs a majority in Israel
or
2) Removing all troops and travel restrictions from the WB and Gaza.

What's so special about 2025? A two state solution hasn't been viable for well over 40 years.

By that point Palestinians will be a MAJORITY of those living either in Israel or in Israeli occupied land. If I'm the PA, I just say "we're no longer a state. We really never were a state because Israel never really gave us independence. We recognize Israel. We demand the right to vote in a one person, one vote election".
