The part where the "transfer Rules", will only apply to the P5; Worries me. I know he said the rules would be reviewed every 2 years but still. A lot of damage can be done in that time. 07-coffee3

I like the way he insinuated that we are not begging for more teams (I think that was aimed at byu and or a western wing) to join but would listen if they suddenly become interested. I believe that about him. I'm starting to ser that Aresco actually believe that American is strong enough to stand on it's own accomplishments and I appreciate that about him

He also backed off previous claims that we would spend on whatever the P5 decides to spend on.

Yes he did but to be fair he stated "We don't know exactly what that is. We will cover what is needed and something's might not be" (give or take some words). I think anyone was a little fooled if you thought we could do EVERYTHING they did. Now what things can we do? Can we afford to cover the families entire trip to games or maybe room and meal? The AAC has to be smart about the things that really matter and get the most bang for the buck.

Well, I certainly never believed it, as it seemed obvious that with their massively greater new revenue, the P5 could outspend us if they wanted. Struck me as the same old glib big-talk he excels at.

But if anyone else believed it, they were fooled by Aresco, since he stated emphatically and numerous times that we would be in lock-stop with the P5 on spending.

This could ultimately force some schools to rely even more locally for recruits

We won't really know until the P5 announces what they will offer wether we can match all or just some. I am hoping that as a league we match them but too early to tell.

That's where you have to be smart. I speak for UH but more recently we are starting to see our staff really focus on kids in our area. That will really cut down on the "family benefit cost". You can afford to cater food if 95% of the parents are within driving distance. You can then pick and choose a player from Cali (Greenberry, Jackson) or FL (JOK) that will be the one off's.

I just think the AAC can do most of the things the P5 can to make us a respectable conference in regards to player comfort. We just cant spend blindly and run out of control budgets. Hit the most key things. Every player having Beats for game day might not be possible but Sony makes some nice headphone for half the price :)

Yup. And as intrepid as some may think AAC schools will be towards the levels of spending on SA's being proposed by the P5, the bottom line is that we don't know what that really means. There are many estimates that even the new unlimited snacks may end up costing an extra $1M/yr per school. I think that we'll find that many will spend some extra on stipends and maybe snacks, but when it comes to things like increased staffs or allowable recruiting activities and other line items that the AAC will not be following the levels of spending that will be coming for the P5.

The one thing that I fear would come along by the P5 will be increasing the number of scholarships. It is hard enough for the G5 to stay with them, but would make the division between the P5 and G5 even bigger, causing a division 4 without having to break away.

It's certainly away around the transfer rules. If you absorb all the higher talent to begin with you don't have to worry about whiffing on a few and getting them to transfer

If the AAC doesn't, but individual schools within the AAC want to (and there will be more than one that do) then what? How does that work?

That is one area where the P5 conceded power, even from the weighted voting within FBS. Any increase to the scholarship limits would be on a one vote per FBS conference basis and a simple majority (6/10). The P5 could not vote to increase scholarship limits without at least one G5 conference going along with them.

I think he will try to get everyone to go along. If it does happen that some do and some do not, it will separate the teams and more likely that you will see some schools asked to leave the conference. I still think most if not all the AAC will match it.
