New OOC matchups for WVU announced this week
To go along with the Virginia Tech game announced last week, WVU added a one and done game against Tennessee at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte to kick off the 2018 season. Also, WVU scheduled a "home/home" series with NC State for 2018 and 2019.
Hard to believe that we have never played UT before and we have a ton of fans in Charlotte (and the surrounding area). Should make for an electric environment. Also excited about the NC State series, as I have been to a game in Raleigh and loved the atmosphere. Good fans who were having a great time! Consider me a big fan of these announcements!!

Was excited about this match up. Much better schedule now for NCSU
2016 ND 2017 @ND
2018 WV 2019 @WV
2020 Miss St. 2021 @Miss St.
I love the way this is scheduled. Hopefully NCSU can get P5 opponents with the away games in those even years and home in the odd years.

WVU has figured out how to visit NC every year by alternating the ECU/NCSU series

Nice logical scheduling by WVU.
Future OOC match-ups with Maryland, Virginia Tech, ECU, Penn State, NC State and Tennessee --- cannot argue with any of those in terms of both quality of opponent and regional appeal. The future BYU game in Landover, MD is also great for WVU.

That's exactly where my head is. These are all exciting games against strong programs in appealing locations for our regional fan (and recruiting) base.

Clearly West Virginia is concentrating on an OOC schedule that is not only attractive, but also provides fans with a fighting chance to attend a road game.

WVU in '18 will only have 6 home games. Got 4 road conference games, NC State away, and Tennessee in Charlotte.
'17 as well 5 road conference games, and Va Tech in Fedex.

If I were a West Virginia fan, I'd be excited. I already respect WVU and this reinforces that.

Agreed, Ollie is really killing it when it comes to scheduling.

Now if Ollie and Julie can get together and bring back Hillbilly-Guido Week at least for a few years at a time.

Both of these are positive developments for WV and take a little of the sting away from all those games on the prairie.

XLance, the ACC does not need to expand, but MD was always the number one blackball against WVa, from back in 1953. Chancellor House tried to get them back in with the group in after he tired to get VT back in 1954. The VT voted died 4-4, he could not get a second for WVa.
Given that MD is gone and MD's partners against WVa were always Duke and Va, do you think WVa has a shot again in the future? I don't know how Pitt really feels about them and I don't know how the new guard at VT think. Heard anything about the subject?
I know Clemson and FSU would be strong proponents, but I don't seen them doing anything for the league other than breaking even on TV, however their fans will travel to games in Chapel Hill, Durham, Charlottesville, Winston, and Raleigh and the like.
While much is made of the B12 GOR, I can see the Big 12 allowing West Va to leave in exchange for say BYU because no one seems happy in the B12 with the travel aspect.

Any of these teams are great OOC P-5 games for WVU, and glad to see several of them included. Good stuff, Mr. Luck.
Pitt, Penn State, Virginia Tech, NCSU, Tennessee, Kentucky, Maryland, Syracuse, Virginia, North Carolina.

The new guard at VT are very pro WVU. Their new AD got his masters degree from WVU. He was the leading candidate for the WVU AD job had Luck left for Texas. He's also very close to Rich Rod and could definitely see him hiring RR when Beamer steps down.

If I were an ACC strategist and planning additional expansion, my number 1 target would be Vanderbilt.
Why? location, location, location.
IMO the reason the SEC and B1G have been successful is that they are linear, that is the conferences run east to west. Louisville was taken in addition to the obvious reasons to get the conference as far west as possible (roughly south of Notre Dame). Vanderbilt is southwest of Louisville and would create a marketing corridor from Chicago to Nashville and over to Atlanta.
West Virginia would be a great fall-back if Vanderbilt decides not to leave the SEC.
I would imagine that any moves wouldn't be made for at least 7-10 years.
