minute breakdown bball
i tried to think about how many points each 'cat would score for the upcoming season and it was uncharacteristically high. so, i decided to think about (not mathematically correctly, but layman's math) how many minutes these dudes would play

I could see all of that except for me:

- Farad Cobb replaces Guyn's minutes at PG
- Guyn and KJ's minutes are flipped - I just think Guyn garners more time at SG
- Quadri and Jamaree's minutes are flipped

interesting. i didn't know cobb was a point man. on paper, there is a lot of talent. but no experience. i get scared at the prospect of shaq being our go to guy and ge'lawn and jermaine being our leaders. but i get excited about the possibilities

This will be a difficult coaching job for Mick, in terms of getting multipe diverse skilled players into the lineup. I don't even think I'll even guess about the PT breakdown.

One thing I am sure of, is that the returning players will get the most minutes at the start of the season. I'm looking at at least 20 minutes each for each returning player, and more for some.

Sorry to steer off-topic. Back to serious discussion on Lush's original topic.

Lush, I think you are on the right track. It's pretty clear to all of us, that a lot of these guys can play multiple positions.

It's a good problem to have, but a problem, nonetheless, in terms of Mick finding the right ones, of probably 100 possible combinations.

I think Guyn will play off the ball some, because I see Cobb as more of a PG-SG hybrid. But I also think Ge's experience at PG last year will help him become a better all-around guard. I think Guyn will make a huge jump in production this year.

I think Mormon will get much more than 5 minutes because Mick puts a premium on defense. I do think he'll look like the early-years Guyn on offense, because he hasn't played at this level. Guyn will pass Mormon the torch of defensive shut down guard.

Troy will start at PG, IMO, because he has the edge in Mick's system over Cobb.

KJ will be first guard off the bench, but will have a good chance at leading the team in scoring, ala early SK.

IMO, Shaq is the most important returnee. He has to score consistently and lead the team. His potential is highest, but to date, the most unrealized.

Sanders is very versatile glue guy. I think he starts.

I don't see Clark playing any SF, but I agree with you that 15 minutes for him is achievable.

Center looks like a logjam. But the interesting thing, is that each of those guys has a different skill set for Mick to throw out there.

RE: minute breakdown bball
At minimum 2 guys are falling out of the rotation. We aren't going 12 deep. That would be a disaster. Guys won't be able to get into enough of a rhythm and you won't be playing your best players enough. More than likely, we will probably play a main rotation of 8 guys with 1 or 2 guys playing sparingly and even having a few DNP-CD's.

Who actually falls out of the rotation remains to be seen but I would guess off the top of my head Moore and Strickland. Strickland has basically missed 3 of the last 4 years of basketball. Just practicing will be good for him. And Moore is gonna be a freshman who has a ways to go with conditioning and just learning defense at this level.

If I'm picking a freshman to play a significant role, it's gonna be Clarke, although it will probably be in the 13-16 minute range.

Ellis and Deberry will split the 5. Ellis may play some 4 as well. And then Sanders and Thomas will get a little bit of run there in some smaller lineups. And Clarke will clean up the rest.

Thomas and Sanders will likely split close to 100% of the minutes at the 3.

Figuring out how the guard positions break down is really interesting to me. I have no idea. I would love to see G lose his spot. He does very little to provide value. That doesn't seem likely to me though. I also don't see Moorman not getting some significant PT, but the numbers as of now just don't add up. Maybe the trip to Atlantis will give us an idea, but more than likely we won't know till the middle of November at the earliest.
