When the RB hosts the semi final it can be anyone because it's the playoff and not the Rose Bowl. But when it's the actual Rose Bowl Game the other years there will never be a G5 team in it or anyone but the B1G and PAC teams.

Ahem. I do know and yes the name is still the "ROSE BOWL". It will be televised and advertised as the "ROSE BOWL hosting the College National Chamionship Playoffs". So please spare me your semantics. 04-cheers

Tallgrass is making strong validated points. They are just not agreed upon by many P5 fans because to them the G5 are what they are and could never be on the same level. Those fans would be correct with the way the current system is setup the G5 will not able to obtain the same caliber of programs but if they had an equal shot at the title then many teams in the G5 would be a legitimate threat and many of the upper G5 teams would be poised to move into a power role. This is why P5 push for autonomy is to separate and ensure less divided profit sharing. The G5 do not compete year in year out because they are not allowed too not because they are not able. Sorry P5 fans but if you said UCF could compete for a national championship they would be a far better program than probably at least half of the P5 and they are already better than the bottom third of the P5. Louisville fans should understand stand this because you were in a non AQ conference during the bcs era as well until the Big East called on you. Now look what given a fair chance has done for your program.

Louisville, Utah and TCU fans understand...that why for the life of me I couldn't understand why some now G5 ppl wanted the old BIG EAST to lose it spot...if anything it would have been better if the BIG EAST was still a Power League and the remaining 4 had the Access Slot...not the case now...you added schools that has had early on at least 8 years of recruiting at the old BCS Level.

First, threaten a monopoly AND CIVIL RIGHTS lawsuit against BCS. ...

Second, a civil rights petition should also be made. ...

I think the G5 have to band together and have a unified organizational structure. If they don't hang together, they will surely hang seperately. However, expensive lawsuits just send money to the lawyers.

Here is what a "United G5 Superconference" could do:

  1. Jointly negotiate TV rights (definately Tier 1 & game of the week, probably tier 2 national broadcasts)
  2. Arrange post-season play (match top teams not in BCS in bowls: 1 vs 2, 3 vs 4, run a 16-team FCS-type playoff for the rest so every eligible team makes the post-season)
  3. Force teams out that never should have moved to FBS (Idaho, UMass)
  4. Realign olympic sports to regional conferences to reduce travel costs
  5. Keep conferences from inviting teams to FBS that aren't ready (Buffalo)

In this way, the G5 can maximize their clout and their money. Sacrifice some autonomy, but gain a whole lot more.

We need a G5 mini-playoff for the access spot and be the first to show the rest of the nation how a real playoff is performed....

WRONG!!!!

Not unless there's a P5 Playoff for any open spots. Or you're just emphasising the P5 Point. That the G5 Need only 1 slot. Which is entirely wrong. There needs to be "EQUAL" access for all. 07-coffee3

...you do get that there is no such thing as AQ for the playoff right?

If no conference has guaranteed access to the playoff then everybody has equal access

No you guys just don't want to admit the BS.

When you have 5 conferences playing for 3 spots and the rest playing for 1 spot, well thats not "EQUAL ACCESS". I'm tired of your constant BS responces.

If you can't understand that giving access because of money and not earning the access on the field is wrong, then I hold little hope for your ability to understand simple concepts. 07-coffee3

I honestly have no idea what you are blithering about.

The PLAYOFF is open access to every team in FBS.

But maybe you are talking about the non-playoff Bowl games.

Here's a big secret so don't tell anyone: BOWL GAMES EXIST PURELY TO MAKE MONEY AND NOTHING ELSE.

Also, the P5 arent "competing" for their slots in the Contracts Bowls....thats why they are called CONTRACT bowls. Just like the G5 is not competing for their slot either. Its automatic.

I know these concepts are hard so let me know if I'm going too fast.

There are 6 Contract Bowls that will rotate yearly to host the College National Shampionship Semi-Finals and the Championship game. Those bowls not selected to Host any of those games will be considered Contract Bowls and thus not under the control of the Selection Committee. This means they do not need to give access to a G5 team. There is a provision for 1 G5 team in an available slot. I was wrong in the count as there will be 5 P5 slots available.

As for the Mythical National Championships. I was wrong as well. The G5 have absolutely no access. Your hand picked committee will argue strength of schedule and Power Conferences vs Gang of Five Conferecnes and in the end, no team outside of the P5 will sniff the Playoffs.

So Yes, I agree I was wrong on both counts. It's actually worse then I thought. 03-banghead

Since there is only 1 spot available to the G5 then you're wrong. They are competing for the one and only 1 spot.

Then demand that USF leave FBS and join FCS where you can play for a real national title in a real playoff.

Why don't you demand that your team come play mine and show us how superior you are. I bet it never happens. Just like the rest of the P5 trying to avoid any team that can possibly harm their rep.

There will be a day when you so limit the kids allowed to play in your sand box that you'll finally realize, that no one cares about you any more. 04-cheers

It's not self pity. It's realizing that a 12-0 Marshall will be chosen over a 10-2 UCF/ECU/UC/USF. It's called stacking the deck. That committee of yours will use the reverse selection process on the G5 as it will use on the P5 to ensure the weakest apponent. Watch it will happen.

As for D4, It' won't come but I'm hoping you're right. Then will come so much more and perhaps the end to this garbage for a time. 07-coffee3

RE: 8-Team National Playoff: NonBCS schools must organize & threaten monopoly lawsuit
I do not think the CFP will go from 4 to 8, instead I think it will go to 6.. the five P5 Conf champs(this means BIG 12 would have to expand to 12 and hold a game) and top rated G5 school. However to get to this, will take some time! going form 4 to 8 is to much strain on the Bowls. (6 allows top two seeded team {determied by pools} to have bye... Peach & Cotton host first roundd match ups, then the winners make up the final four and can be in the CFP ROSE/Orange/Suger/Fiesta)

Some hurdels, how do the top 6 bowl games pay out bowl money? Also what Bowl games become Access bowls for teams ranked 6-10? ( Gator/Liberty/Sun/Las vegas??)

The G5 schools DO have an equal shot at the title. The four playoff slots are not affiliated with any conferences at all. All schools from the 10 FBS conferences and independents are equally eligible for them.

There will not be "5 P5 slots available". Those 5 slots WILL be occupied by P5 teams as part of their contracts with those bowls. The bowls decided they wanted to sign the contracts with the P5 conferences.

In fact, the G5 owes the P5 a big debt of thanks for twisting the arms of these bowls to accept 1 G5 team. Originally, the bowls had absolutely no interest in doing that but the P5 leaned on them to accept it.

Exactly...it became Market Driven and if you remember the G5 tied to get it own Bowl-(in Houston)...it fell flat...05-nono
