RE: Ticket Sales
I don't think NIU is ever going to sell a lot of season tickets playing 3 saturday home games (all on consecutive weekends too) through an entire season. That's just a tough sell.

RE: Ticket Sales
I will point out the positives from the article...

Huskie Stadium will also have new premium seating areas this season. According to NIU athletic director Sean Frazier, the Coaches Club – which is located inside the west grandstand and will feature a buffet and cash bar, is more than halfway sold out.

The new Sky Club, an area in front of the sky box which includes chair backs, a cash bar and food buffet, is sold out.

Frazier added that the chairbacks in the middle of the west grandstand are sold out, as is The Terrace Club on the Yordon Center.

One thing Frazier said he will do is protect season ticket holders, and not drop ticket prices at the last minute.

Frazier is doing all the right things. It's not his fault the schedule has been a train wreck the last couple years. #Jiff

7 games in Huskie Stadium in 2015 will be awesome. The entire thought process behind dropping ticket prices at the last minute to look good on TV was stupid. You're not giving anyone any reason to buy season tickets doing that. Buying season tickets is supposed to save you money rather than going game by game.

And give you the same great seats for each game.

Other than the November MACtion games, when Jiff came in with a last min promo we weren't even on real TV!

Then again he thought that ESPN3.com was real TV.

Chairbacks sold out? Let's add more. Sounds like we'd cover that cost fairly quickly. An upgrade like that is quicker than adding seats and a relatively cheaper expense.

I've said it before...Why not get Chairbacks into the section between the 45's on the Eastside pronto?

I don't think I would screw with the student side. NIU has the best student attendance at football games in the MAC, imo. If they really do sell out chairbacks, just put in more on the West side. Not sure how much people with enough quan to drop on chairbacks want to be dealing with students anyways.

Sorry, but gotta disagree a bit here.

Yes, we do have great Student Attendance. That said I really don't think sliding them down a section or two would ruin their experience. I like sitting on the East Side & yes the students are less than half my age. .

That's Prime Real Estate that has added Value to make $$. I haven't researched every school but I'm gonna guess it's rare to have 50 yard line seats that don't have a Premium attached to them.

First the concrete in the chairback/benchback section is different than anywhere else in the stadium. It gives deeper rows so the seats fit. So to change out bench seats for chairbacks of the style we have now its actually rather expensive.

However, I think that they could rather easily remove all the benchbacks and replace them with chairbacks. IMO the benchbacks are really not that comfortable as I think is shown by them not selling as well.

If the program grows then there is no doubt that the students are going to be moved out at the very least the center 3 sections of the East stands. This opens up almost 3k premium seats between the 30s for sale. What that would also do is then give us the option to swap the sidelines back to how it was before 2005.

Yeah....I figured there's more to it...It's always simpler on a Message Board. But you follow my thinking as to it's Value.

If the announcement of BCS teams coming to DeKalb is true, that will really really help sales going forward.

RE: Ticket Sales
While those season ticket sales are disappointing in my opinion, I also thought the story should have elaborated on what was mentioned in the photo cutline. Once again, I believe NIU alum Rick Cerrone is behind the new series of window displays throughout downtown DeKalb. There's a mix of great old time photos with current or recent photos that actually might lead some to think there's a better connection between Huskie athletics and the downtown businesses. At the very least, I think they dress up some hideous looking buildings. I know this may be crazy, but are those "window clings" re-useable? As in what happened to the ones that were up last year.....did they have to be scrapped off the windows and ruined? While we -- understandably and justifiably don't hesitate to list complaints -- should also give some credit at times and I'm glad to see the new clings.

If there is still a lot of demand I wonder if they are thinking about eliminating the bench backs (most of them) still this year and replacing them with chairbacks. I'm sure it isn't that hard to change them. They did the cells upper level a few years back In only about 2 months. I think also with the sky club selling out is a good hint we will see a good portion of club style seating in the master plan with SF instead of some of the other options in the survey. We lucked out in landing Frazier, up to this point he has done everything right IMO.
