Proportionality is absolute BS. If any concept needs to disappear from international law, it is proportionality. Proportionality guarantees stalemate and quagmire, which in the end result in far more death and damage than the application of overwhelming force from the start to get things over with in a hurry.

Proportionality is why Vietnam ended in a mess. Proportionality is why Afghanistan is ending in a mess. Proportionality is why Iraq ended in a mess.

It's a concept developed by a bunch of people who share one common trait--few, if any, of them ever actually fought in a war.

Israel is interested in survival. If our survival had been at stake in Vietnam or Iraq or Afghanistan, perhaps we would have fought differently. It wasn't, we didn't, and we got a bunch of our future generations killed or maimed for no good reason as a result. Never fight a war you don't intend to win.

Israel is fighting a war for survival, the Arabs will continue on regardless. Victory for Israel is the only choice. They are fighting to win the peace.

Arabs are fighting for death and destruction.

I would say that we need to stop pretending that there are any "bad guys" in this fight and realize that imposing deals from outside is exactly how this mess got created in the first place.

If we are going to impose any solution, it needs to be one that works for all parties, or it will never last. A two-state solution based on the 1949-1967 borders does not work for either side.

We need to stop taking sides, stop kidding ourselves, and face the reality that this will never work.

I got news for Mr.or Mrs(can't tell WTF it is) Pillay. War crimes happen in every REAL war. All this should tell anyone is that the Israelis are now fighting for REAL. They are not trying to play nice now.
