All depends on the situation.

At Ft. Bragg, the SF guys were for the most part pretty laid back and cool. It was the guys who wanted to be SF that were the ones making a ton of racket and being obnoxious.

I remember being in a bar one night and a guy was talking about the life of a 82nd Airborne soldier this and that, and how he was 7th group, blah blah blah.

Buddy of mine was a Sgt. He walked up to him and struck up a conversation and was asking about which DZ was the best to land in, and basically trapped the guy in several lies. Rick was like you're not airborne, you're probably not even on the side of base that goes to war, you're probably a pencil pusher.

Kid popped up and informed him that he would show him some respect he was a PFC.

Rick said, well salute me b*tch, I'm a sergeant.

Happens to us too. People tend to embellish what the USCG does.
I'm not going to say Coasties are worthless or if they're badasses, but you gotta admit they have the roughest go of it. They get picked on by everybody. They also have one of the most elite rescue teams in the armed forces.

I'm partial to Pararescue myself, but that's because my FIL was one in Vietnam.

We get picked on, but there is respect from those who serve near us or with us. Every service gets picked on by the others, even the Marines.

My dad used to pick on the Coast Guard until I signed up. Then he was telling me how much safer I would've been in the Navy.
Didn't realize you were a Coastie.

If you get a chance and got to NY, there's a park close to where the Staten Island Ferry is on the NYC side. There's a monument erected to the memory and in honor of the Coast Guard during WWII that's pretty cool.

Well I may have lied. I found the picture I took of it.. I thought it was for the Coast Guard.

Yeah, there's one in Battery Park though. It's different, but you're partially correct lol

Actually, that inscription could be for the Coast Guard. But this website shows a different monument:

Where I took the picture, that wasn't at Battery Park I don't think. Let me get on a map.

You know it could very well be Battery Park.

Found it. It was Battery Park. It's for the Merchant Marines.

That inscription could work for either CG or MM. I think this one is probably MM since the CG monument is described separately. MM academy is at King's Point on Long Island. Not too far from La Guardia and Citi Field. NY Maritime Academy is across Throgs Neck Bridge on the other side of the East River/LI Sound. That monument would have been particularly appropriate at either of those locations. But rereading, I guess you are saying it was at the Battery.

Maybe it is because they are part of a group but here in El Paso, many of them seem to come into places like they own the joint. You can just see people cringe when they walk in. I can think of a few bars that they have ruined.
