Article kind of had a very Cajun slant to it.

In Fritz's Sun Belt interview today he literally said "I have always run a triple option, it's just the Offensive Line that is changing."

Looking forward to the season! Best of luck to everybody OOC.

True we will still have a triple option - but that OL changing is going to be huge. Not cutting and attacking that way off of the snap is going to be interesting. It is also going to require a different skill set and physical attributes - something that I fear might highlight some weaknesses especially against OOC/AQ games.

And the QB's position at the play start, so far behind that OL is going to be very different from what we have been most successful with.

I'm behind Fritz - but It's going to take a lot to convince me that this new scheme is superior or even equal to our old one. The changes are big.

I'd LOVE to see us come out in the Flexbone on our opening play against NCState - and watch them go - OH CRAP because they are probably watching SHSU game file to get ready for that game and maybe glimpsed the Florida game and said - "they aren't running that anymore". Then switch over to Fritz's stuff to do what he knows best. BUT - every now and then we come out of the huddle into that flexbone, even if it is just to adjust back to the gun before the snap. Oh the mind games that are possible!

No worries...just watch the Troy offense and you'll see what your team can be in the future 03-2thumbsup

We don't have a triple option anymore. Watching a few of SHS games, they are mostly running speed option, which is a double option. In the SFA game I only remember one play that could have been triple. And it was a fake on a reverse to a wideout which could have been a called play.

Not Fox News, Sports Network which is a wire service that usually has some questionable predictions.

Technically a speed option is a single option read. QB takes the snap and immediately heads to the edge, there is no mesh.

But yes, there are triple option plays in this offense. There were triple option plays in Chris Hatcher's offense. I saw some of it in the spring game, we're still running it.

Blocking out of the shotgun isn't something foreign to us. We've been doing it since 2011. We looked good power running out of it against NDSU in 2011 (probly one of the best DL's we've played recently), we just didn't utilize what was working enough. A lot of the things we're doing now we have done recently. It's not as big of an adjustment as people think it is.

As for the blocking change, this is actually a much simpler blocking scheme that what we'd been doing. Our man blocking scheme was extremely difficult to learn and executing a cut block isn't exactly the easiest thing in the world to do. I've seen plenty of missed blocks or poorly executed blocks that led to a negative play. The way we block now should let our OL leverage against an aggressive DL and run them out of plays. We're not exactly tiny on the OL either.

Here's a question for you. How far behind the line did McKinnon take the ball on his last TD against UF? To further expand on this, how many times did we score TD's from players taking the ball in the backfield?

Coming out in a flexbone look is cute and all, but it doesn't do anything if you don't run plays out of it. That's the only way that would be effective. The defense would still adjust and be more comfortable with the look given to them once you came out of it. Personally I'd rather line up, see what the defense is doing, make the presnap read, and snap the ball. Then do it even faster on the next play. So forth and so on.

I just chuckle at those who complain that the Cajun program will never win the "name" war.

You're getting there...but its going to take time. I think if I remember correctly, Fox has always used the moniker you prefer.

As I surf around the net I see it more and more. As you say, it'll take time but we're getting there slowly but surely.

I'm not worried about blocking. I go back to 2006 where we had a flexbone OL for a new offense and they did a very good job of pass protection. Too bad just about everything else on offense didn't go all that well that year. We have a good OL and they will get the job done.

I would be willing to be we will see more dropped passes and missed receivers than we will see sacks this year.

The option is to the trailing RB in a speed option. Double.

Absolute worst case scenario for USA. Seems to ignore Troy's easy schedule and assume that App will do better that Ga So (while App has a much tougher conference schedule).

This diverges so far from just about everyone else's predictions to be labeled an outlier
