Found this article written by Candace Curtis during the trip to Hoylake for The Open Championship last week. I had no idea he did this one......
Curtis family bids goodbye to England
British Open week is always special for the Curtis family. Ben Curtis shocked the world in 2003 when he won the Open Championship at Royal St. George’s while playing in his first major championship, just three years after earning All-American honors
for a third time at Kent State.
This year Ben’s wife Candace, a Kent Roosevelt and Kent State graduate, took Record-Courier readers with the family to Merseyside, England, and Royal Liverpool Golf Club — site of the 2014 British Open.
British Open week for the Curtis family actually started on Friday, July 11, with “The Featured Pairing,” a benefit for the Ben Curtis Family Foundation at the Secret Cellar wine/ jazz bar in downtown Kent. Over 130 guests attended the event and over $12,000 was raised for the foundation, which provides meals and toiletries for Kent City School students on free and reduced lunches through ‘Birdie Bags’ that are sent home on long weekends and breaks during the school year.
The entire Curtis family, which also includes 8-year-old Liam and 6-year-old Addison, then caught a 2 p.m. flight last Saturday to Manchester.
The family stayed in Hoylake, a seaside town within the Metropolitan Borough of Wirral, on Merseyside. Other members of the Curtis contingent in England included Diane Beatty (Gigi), who is Candace’s mother, and Ben’s caddy Andy Sutton, who was on the bag when Curtis won the ‘03 Open. As you read along, keep in mind that the time in England is five hours ahead of local time.
Update: Curtis shot his second straight 2-over
74 on Friday and did not make the cut.
WELL DONE BEN.....WELL DONE!
