RE: Classified portions of 9/11 report caused shock to Congressmen
I'm surprised Walter was shocked to find Saudi involvement in 911. Most of us already knew this. After all...most of the hijackers were Saudi's.

Just because most of the individuals involved were from Saudi Arabia wouldn't mean the Saudi government was involved.

RE: Classified portions of 9/11 report caused shock to Congressmen
Saudi is not a country the way we in the west think of countries being. It's not a cohesive, coherent whole. Like virtually every other country over there, it's incredibly tribal, far beyond what we can conceive without going there and seeing it for ourselves (or at least that was the case with me, some of you may have better imaginations in that regard).
I guess the one memory that sort of sums it up was going into Yanbu, on the west coast, the port for Medina and now (but not back then) a pipeline terminus. We were met at the sea bouy and escorted in by the emir's yacht--a Vosper Thornycroft 190 foot patrol craft with a 3 inch gun forward and a swimming pool on the fantail. We went to dinner at the emir's home--roast goat--where he expressed the opinion that he ran Yanbu and didn't really care what happened in Riyadh.
Inferring that the hijackers were in any way connected to the Saudi government or royal family because of their origin would be akin to inferring that Timothy McVeigh or Jeff Dahmer represented the views of the US government because they lived here.

Even if the links were to people within the Saudi government, it wouldn't mean the Saudi government was involved. Or, accountable, or something like that.

Quote:Immediately after 9/11, dozens of Saudi royals and members of the bin Laden family fled the U.S. in a secret airlift authorized by the Bush White House. One passenger was an alleged al-Qaida go-between, who may have known about the terror attacks in advance. Our first excerpt from "House of Bush, House of Saud."

The Saudi's were Bush's buddies. Don't you remember they were in the United States and they were quietly flown home after 9/11. Not news to me.

Interesting. Well perhaps the flight didn't take place as originally thought but there is no question that Bush and the Saudi's are friends.

Some individual Saudi's are terrorists, some fund terrorist organizations, some of their banks wash terrorist money. The Royal Family is scared of these people and very scared of Iran, Iraq, Yemen. The Royals gave us the real estate to set up shop for the first Gulf War. They hated Hussein.
http://acdemocracy.org/saudi-arabias-eff...terrorism/
As mentioned earlier, the Saudi royal family fears domestic terrorist groups, especially the Yemen-based branches of the al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP) group. Most of AQAP members are Saudi whose aim is to topple the royal family. The March 2011 Congressional Research Service (CRS) report on Saudi Arabia details the Kingdom’s progress on its domestic al-Qaeda terrorists cells, [31] confirming the 2009 GAO’s finding that “U.S. and Saudi officials report progress on countering terrorism and its financing within Saudi Arabia.” However, the GAO report noted that there was hardly any efforts to prevent “funding for terrorism and violent extremism outside of Saudi Arabia” (Emphasis added).[32] Again, little has changed since Under Secretary Levey testimony before the Senate Finance Committee in 2008 that Saudi Arabia is “serious about fighting Al Qaeda in the kingdom…[but] the seriousness of purpose with respect to the money going out of the kingdom is not as high.”[33]
In 2010 the Saudis dismantled 19 AQAP cells in the Kingdom. The operation included the seizure of 2.24 million riyals (over $600K) and the detention of 149 cell members-including 25 from other Arab, African, and South Asian countries.[34] The arrests foiled at least ten attacks by AQAP on government and military targets, and officials, according to the Saudis. [35] In June 2010 after exposing a 60-person fundraising cell for AQAP, the Saudis announced that they were reviewing their terrorism strategy.[36]

Fit, the historian, at it yet again.
"blah, blah, Don't you remember...they were flown home, blah, blah"?
Uhhh, that's been debunked as completely false.
"Oh, uhhhh, stammer, stammer, stammer, but they were friends!"
Can't make this stuff up. How many minds have you polluted with the teaching of your "history"?!? Otherwise known as fiction? Wow. Friends. they were friends. lol

I'm friends with Americans. Tim McVeigh was an American. Tim McVeigh was a terrorist. Does that make me friends with terrorists?

Sure I do. as much room as I please, thank you.
And I don't claim to teach history either, bud. What I do is goof around in a playpen populated by brain dead leftists, who will refuse over and over to actually acknowledge what is plainly right in front of their faces, and the defenders of the indefensible.
Thanks for your concern though, bud.

These statements are probably equally true:
- The Saudi Royal Family fears groups like ISIS
- The Saudi Royal Family funds groups like ISIS
It used to be the case that the Saudis funded al Qaeda. When al Qaeda turned on them, it was something like the case that the paid them to direct their attacks elsewhere. Whatever the truth is, it's complex and paradoxical.
In general, it is the case that the Saudis funded Salafists in Syria while Qatar funded the Muslim Brotherhood, al Qaeda, and ISIS. The US stood on the sideline while groups aligned with those that funded them. Likewise, Saudi and Qatar were at odds with the MB in Egypt.
The White house has had a stake in minimizing bad acts from the Saudi government for a long long time.

RE: Classified portions of 9/11 report caused shock to Congressmen
Here is a point to ponder.
Israel has fought the Arab states four times--1949, 1956, 1967, and 1973. The 1956 war was pretty much limited to Egypt. The rest have involved coalitions of Arab states. What Arab nation has never participated in a war against Israel?

First of all, I admitted I was wrong as soon as it was brought to my attention. Second, I don't teach my students about divisive topics such as 911 conspiracy. Third, I'm a school teacher. I never claimed to know everything.
