I know someone who has been to every WWS game over the past several years and he wasn't very high on Graham as a QB

Best news of the day.

@HuskieWire: He also said that the upcoming scheduling announcements will include BCS opponents in DeKalb.

i really don't think he has decided on his QB yet and fall camp will be the decider.

I agree. At the summer event in a room full of donors and no outsiders he was saying the same thing.

To me, that doesn't mean anything. All it takes is for one person to say something. At this point, he might just be trying to prevent anyone from becoming too comfortable.

or he has not decided. why not use the fall camp for more evaluation. what do you gain by announcing a qb now.

Definitely. I'm just saying that the only one that truly knows if it's coach speak or not is Carey and his staff.

He's been watching McIntosh for 3 years, Hare for 2, and now Maddie for a full year. I would bet he's leaning towards one right now. He may not know for sure, but I bet he has a strong idea.

If Carey does not have a leader at this point, I would be surprised. He wants competition but it is hard to believe that one of the QBs has not stepped up. Only variable to me is if Root or Graham come in and are world beaters(highly doubtful). I still feel it will be Hare. He is the best passer and I think it was mentioned before, he is a leader too.

Not that I know sh1t, but if I'm Vegas, I'm saying odds to start:

McIntosh: 5-4

Hare: 7-1

Maddie: 12-1

The field: 25-1

This looks about right. They're not going to rep 4 or 5 guys all summer. It's impossible to do. You don't have enough time running 7 on 7 and team to do it. You really can barely rep 3. It'll most likely be a 2 man race no more than a week or two into camp.

If we were playing a B1G team to begin the season, the starter would be named pretty early because you want them to be ready for a tough game. Our first game is not tough so it affords Carey the chance to play out the competition a little more but you want to know your number one QB so that he can get in sync (not the band) with receivers, center, line, runningbacks and of course our TIGHT END

There aren't even four full weeks between the start of camp (August 2) and the first game (August 28). They usually have a pretty solid scrimmage at the halfway point and then give the starters a full two weeks of game prep so you would expect the starter to be named on the 16th at the latest, maybe earlier.

I don't know if I agree with that. If the NU game was the first game, I don't think they'd announce a starter until the offense came out for the first play. Different coaches, but Kill didn't make Chandler the starter at Minnesota or Grady the starter at Iowa State before those games.

I agree with you though, if the competition really is THAT close, splitting time against the Blue Hoes might not be the worst thing in the world.

Yeah, they may not actually name him but I imagine they'll have a pretty good idea how the guy is after that scrimmage.

Even still, I remember going to that scrimmage before the Orange Bowl year, and the offense and Lynch looked as bad as you could imagine with the exception of Keith Harris Jr. A lot can change in a couple weeks.

Why do I think whomever the starter is for Game 1 will be replaced before Game4?

I don't think Maddie has much of a chance to start at QB based on everything we are hearing. It should only be a two horse race between McIntosh and Hare...but I am afraid to say, since we are not hearing much on this front I am beginning to believe Root might be a dark horse candidate if he has an awesome camp. 03-banghead

He might not name them but the reps will show who is the starter. DC might have to be mum about this aspect if they are given access to practices. not enough reps to split two ways let alone 3

Probably just picking at words here, but I found this interesting considering he's said previously the best thrower would be the guy.

Quote:"How they lead the football team down the field," Carey said. "That's as simple and small as you can make it. They need to lead the football team down the field – how they do it doesn't matter whether it's throwing it, handing it off, running it – whatever it is."

http://www.chicagofootball.com/2014/07/2...7v/?page=2

Also, not a Carey quote but still at least worth adding:

Quote:That's where each of the three candidates differentiate from one another. Maddie is the dual-threat option. Hare, while possessing the ability to run, fits more of the Pro Style mold. Then there's McIntosh, who Carey characterized as an exceptional runner, also puts touch on the deep ball, giving Carey and his staff plenty to mull over.

Watched a video from NIU on FB and looks like roc lemon is back on the roster, so the LBs will have a lot of experience and options, that's a good thing.
