WTKA dissing EMU
I have been meaning to post this for a long time but decided now is appropriate. When EMU announced our new field turf and "The factory" WTKA made light of the announcement on the radio without knowing the facts. We were going to get new turf anyway since the life of the old material had expired. It was brilliant by our marketing dept, the coaching staff, and the AD to get free national recognition by changing the color ( for free) and watch the media swell - it worked. It set the table and gave hope to a bunch of young men that they can play for a MAC championship.
Getting back to WTKA, after they made light of the field turf they turned to rip on Heather Luke and mentioned how she is guilty by association for being connected to Jim Tressel. I am stating this nicely because they continued to take cheap shots at EMU football and Heather Luke. I encourage all of you to email Sam Webb and IRA Weintroff (sp?) to express our disappointment in their actions. They have a tool to produce good will (radio show) and used it to hurt EMU. I believe this is due to Ron English being fired, and the coaches show being moved to 105.1 but at any rate, using the media to air hurtful accusations was inappropriate, inaccurate, and should not be tolerated by EMU fans and alumni. Are you with me? Please email Sam and IRA to stop dissing EMU.

Wtka has done nothing but trash on the university and poke fun at the university since day one. They have one objective and one objective only over tree and that's to cover the university if Michigan (aka their meal ticket)
It's a second rate network to say the least. I mean, they don't even produce their own afternoon show anymore. I haven't listened to the network sice the days of Dennis fithian.

Who cares?
Most of America agrees with them. If you're associated with EMU, you'd better develop thick skin.

The problem is that negative remarks are often taken by the ignorant as the truth. They don't investigate further and accept what they have heard. Unfortunately this is the same tactic used by major media in this area as well. u of m seems to control the media in se Michigan and viciously try to minimize or delete any competition. You may have noticed that scores become almost invisible when they lose to anyone outside of their conference. It would be interesting to find out how they control the media. Money? Grads in strategic media positions? Or just the love of dominator?

I am so glad Heather and EMU left this station because they allowed the previous coach not to take any questions from the fans, did allow for call-in, and didn't cover much educational/informational stuff for the fan. I hope the move to another station will allow for the fan to interact with the new coach, staff and players. I would like for the format to really WOW me with something I didn't know. Allow me a chances to get to know the players & coaches. Make me feel like I know these kids off the field.
Maybe we should start another Thread on what are we looking for in the new coaches talk show. I think I read that it will be bi-weekly.

Actually there are a lot of non sports radio shows and entire networks where opinions are spouted off as though they are facts. On the other hand I have to agree with Bovine that unfortunately given our record in football we're the brunt of a lot of negative press (who by the way recalls the negative press about only 300 showing up for tournament basketball?). However fairness in coverage would address the fact that EMU is trying to change all that through the indoor football facility and the new turf and maybe new lights and of course a new football coach. My impression of CC is that he is more open to being fan friendly and marketing the program. I've seen more sunlight and being transparent in this program since he became coach.
