Companies that advertise in Spanish
should be boycotted or avoided IMO. They are just encouraging balkanization.

Immigrants of the past learned English so they could interact with American society.

RE: Companies that advertise in Spanish
I generally don't patronize such places because I don't speak Spanish and they're clearly not targeting me.

There's a car dealership in the 'ham that has run commercials in Spanish, and I've never bought anything from them, but that may just be because it's a General Mayhem dealership.

To be honest, I'll admit I avoid buying in stores that emphasize the Spanish as much as they do English in their signs and advertisements. That's not to say I wont' go there, but I try competitors before I will those stores.

Great taco stand at Kirby and Winchester, by the farmers market...we just hand him money and he gives us the most amazing food...I have no clue what he's saying, but the food is wonderful.

I will no longer set foot in Target or JCPenny.

These are businesses trying to cash in on the influx of illegal immigration and just helping create subcultures.

That's a weak ass comment and you should be ashamed you made it.

This is about protecting our culture. We don't have advertisers making ads in German or French. Probably because immigrants from those countries learn English.

Heh, given some of the tripe you post, I'll take that as a compliment.

It is not Target's fault there are people who speak Spanish within their marketing sphere. Why do you hate capitalism?

Again, a ridiculous comment. It is Target's fault that they are putting ads out in Spanish and not encouraging people coming to this country to learn the native language.

This country will balkanize and people like you don't have the mental fortitude to see it coming. You are one of the countless "only see it when it's too late" people that has helped immensely in our downfall.

I avoid them because they're places that are geared to hose you as hard as they can -- or, at least they are here in my little corner of the southeast.

pawn shops. check cashing places. used car lots with sky high financing. places, I have always presumed, that prey on folks that are interested in keeping a low profile.

. . . and, because I simply don't need their services.

I'll type this again, more slowly this time. Target is not the reason people in America speak Spanish. They are just filling what they see as an opening to increase their sales.

You do realize that if you were to time travel to the 1890's and walk down a street in New York City, you could have seen hundreds of advertisments and storefronts all in German, Italian and even Hebrew, and not one in English? Same thing in San Francisco, you would have seen tons in Chinese, Japanese and yes, Spanish.

Immigrants have ALWAYS travelled to the United States speaking another language and continued to use it in this country for commerce and business. Its not a symptom of any kind of "balkanizing" culture, but rather the opportunism of our economic system as those have said.

That, and historically, people immigrating to the US (legal or otherwise) who don't speak a syllable of English, by the third generation, speak only English.

Immigrant: Native language only
Child: More or less bilingual
Grandchild: Only English

You might be the most clueless poster on this forum. Three times now and you still cannot understand the point. You just make up nonsensical conclusions that have nothing to do with the premise.

I would suggest you make an attempt to understand the premise before you make these ridiculous replies.

That works with legal immigration. We have naturalization processes in place. We have quotas and there is never more of a foreign culture imposed on the host that cannot be assimilated. That is not indicative to just the United States. When you impose a culture on the host too quickly or in unsustainable numbers, you create balkinization. Sub cultures and sects that end up conflicting...not communication.

You would know that if you could see past your left wing talking points.
