June Jones Says Have Nots Should Move To Spring Football
Ok SMU, you have my full support in firing him after these silly and demeaning comments. lol....Was the dude high during this interview?

Appearing on Tampa's WDEA-AM on Friday, Jones argued that the "have-nots" of FBS - the American, Mountain West, Conference USA, MAC and Sun Belt - should eschew their traditional fall football schedules and instead play in the spring. "I'll go ahead and say it right now," Jones said, "I think the have-nots should go ahead and move to the spring just like the USFL did. I think that there's an opportunity to do a complete other side of that division, and I think that if we don't think that way as a group of have-nots, we're going to get left behind. I can see in five-to-seven years, possibly, the public would demand to have the two leagues play, just like I think the USFL had in mind, originally, of the winner of the USFL playing the winner of the National Football League."

RE: June Jones Says Have Nots Should Move To Spring Football
honestly if we get left out and the divide becomes unrealistic huge like in the case of a division 4, this would be a pretty decent idea for the left overs

no one wants a honda when you have the option to drive a lexus/mercedes ... but everyone will drive a honda if thats their only option

but only if all hell breaks loose and we have absolutely no legal way to compete with the p5, like a division 4

If things keep going the way they are now, this may be an option. Already the non "P5" is playing for a participation ribbon by being able to play in an access bowl.

RE: June Jones Says Have Nots Should Move To Spring Football
Unless they can be counted as exhibitions, there's a small detail of body bag games and payment for them which so many schools, already operating in the red, depend on. This not to mention that it would become a de facto or de jure split of FBS and the casual fans that already think every league except the P5 is D-II won't care or watch. Imagine if that had been done years before, TCU, Utah and Louisville would not be where they are.

Its too early to entertain that idea, at least for this conference and possibly the MWC. Lets see where things are in 10 years. If its all gone to hell, well then I'm up for anything. Lets play spring ball!

RE: June Jones Says Have Nots Should Move To Spring Football
If the G5 moved to Spring, the P5 would just spend Spring scouting our players and making shady offers to them over the summer to get them to play for them in the fall.

RE: June Jones Says Have Nots Should Move To Spring Football
The CFP is set to pay the G5 over $1 billion over the next 12 years. Unless the P5 pony up that to breach the contract, the G5 will not be leaving FBS. That's just dumb.

By the way, I watched some CFL last night just because it was on. Even with 2 UCF alums on one of the teams, I couldn't get into it. It's football. In the offseason. It just didn't feel right.

RE: June Jones Says Have Nots Should Move To Spring Football
June is an idiot! The current football schedule (including bowl games) now runs from September 1 to January 1 (give or take a handful of days on each side). That is about 18 weeks including bowl games and 14 weeks not including them.

At UConn, final exams ended on May 10 this year. Not factoring in bowl games, a 12 game season would need to begin at the end of January. If bowl games are included, then the season would need to begin the first week of January!!!!

So, June.... did you think about?:
1) BOWL GAMES! Are we going to create a bunch of crappy G5 only bowls in the spring that nobody will care about at all?
2) SNOW!!!!! Yes, schools in the north really want to play football in January and February! 03-lmfao

June, will you please step up to the chalk board?

RE: June Jones Says Have Nots Should Move To Spring Football
He's right that Spring football is the next frontier.

He's wrong that the AAC and the rest of the have-nots should march willingly towards their own doom by being the ones to pioneer it.

Let the NFL's minor league do that.
