RE: Spring Football?
This was a 3 hour topic today on Chris Childers Sirius XM College Football Weekend Show on Channel 91. It was live this morning. You could probably still listen to the replay tonight and then on demand . Sean Frazier came on as a guest for about 15-20 minutes and he said at the very least playing in the Spring was worth discussing. Childers is originally from the area and has family that are big NIU fans and is always good to us on the air.
It was very interesting to listen to. There would be some big hurdles but it was entertaining to listen to for a couple hrs while doing yard work.
If the mid-majors seriously considered doing this, at the very least it might give them a bigger bargaining chip with the power 5. They still need mid majors to play them a couple games to start the season and fill bowl spots.

I hope this NEVER happens and I am dissapointed that Mr. Frazier has stated that it is worth discussion.

My initial reaction was the same as yours, however, I'm also convinced the P5 are forever going to try to distance themselves from everyone else. The rich will always want to get richer and do so at the expense of everyone else. Sometimes I begin to feel like it's inevitable and if that is the case, then let's be at the forefront of whatever comes next. On the other hand, if the P5 were to have their own organization or push everyone to the spring or whatever, what happens down the road? Eventually the worst of the P5 will become the new low class with little or no hope to advance. Do future P5 coaches and administrators only come from other P5 programs, or does someone have to gamble (ala the Bears hiring a CFL coach)? Like I said, my first thought was it is disappointing to hear Frazier even discussing this in theory, but where is college football headed if not toward another split in what used to be know simply as Division I?

RE: Spring Football?
While I'm not a fan of the idea, the landscape of college football demands NIU has to at least think of it on the back burner. If the power teams are going to be taking all the money and starting to refuse to play mid-majors and only playing amongst themselves, NIU and others would be left with their tail between their legs.
As much as we'd like to hope that NIU someone sneaks in with a Boise, Fresno, type of group to get included in big college football, you have to at least be prepared for the worst possible scenario.

Nothing wrong on kicking the tires on any ideas. The current system is broken (and a turn off to me personally)

RE: Spring Football?
Problem with moving our games to the spring is that will eliminate us playing P5 teams by 100%.
Also there is no way that MOST of the AAC and MWC teams go for this. The remaining BE teams would rather go bankrupt rather than admit that they are dropping a level of play.
If this move to spring happens I see 1 more power conference being included with the P5 from the top tier of the G5 teams.

RE: Spring Football?
So would the G5 teams get to play in the Fall before the transition then immediately again in the spring? OR will the G5 team have to take off 1.5 years in preparation?

Damnit.... Can we not talk about it like it's actually going to happen? It's depressing!

LMAO. The only KU events I attend are the ones that are played against MAC opponents.

1.5 -- Keeps the 1-year interval in academia the same.
