(A little out-of-date. Apologies to Tulane)

UConn should make no apology for the location of their off campus stadium as it fits the geography and population dynamics of Connecticut. Storrs is located in the opposite corner of the state (the northeast corner by Massachusetts, where almost nobody lives) from where the largest concentration of population is (the southwest corner near NYC). Having a stadium that is more convenient to alumni in the NYC suburbs of CT, the city of New Haven, and the city of Hartford is huge for attendance. Also, having it directly in the center of the state in the capitol city of Hartford enables corporations to maintain premium seating for entertaining, etc.

I acknowledge that an on-campus stadium provides a better atmosphere and convenience for students. However, Storrs only has a one lane country road in and out of the Storrs campus which would create crippling traffic on gameday.

As much as the stadium location can be a minor hassle for students, the name of college sports in this day and age is MONEY. Who brings more money in the door for UConn athletics? Alumni and corporations, or students? The answer to that question (along with the population dynamics of CT and the rural nature of UConn) is why the stadium is located where it is.

Interesting chart, but this is not nearly as big an issues as some claim... no one is going to the games on horseback. Anything under 10 is fine, and under the right circumstances (as our friend above points out) even 19 is no big deal. 20-30 minute drive?

Yeah yeah, we all get that an OCS is nice... Everyones circumstances are different. You got the Taj Mahal a few miles down the road, you use it for awhile.

Funny how distance is not a factor in attendance and fan enthusiasm when their team is winning....

Much like on nearly empty on campus facilities when the teams are not winning.

Winning cures a lot of problems.

UCLA, Miami and several other traditional powers have had success playing off-campus for decades. On-campus is great, but the important thing is having good attendance and a spirited tailgating atmosphere around the stadium.

From Richardson Towers on-campus...to my parking spot by the CMOM...2 miles, 6 minutes.

You make Rentschler Field in East Hartford and the UCONN campus in Storrs seem like separate parts of the state... it's less than 21 miles - Storrs is like an outer/distant suburb of Hartford. Plus most of the students live between Hartford and Storrs anyway - as options for living in Storrs are limited!

I did the off-campus thing for 20 yrs but it wasn't till I took scores of road trips where almost everyone else played on-campus that you saw up close on how GAME DAYS (not just the game) that made those days so special.

If you are an alum, nothing more prouder than showing off your school on Game Day.

I might add that it is a beautiful 2 miles down Central Avenue, past a Country Club and many fine old estate homes.

Though a solid portion of our vocal alumni are pissed off that the new OCS is small, most Tulane fans are excited to return to campus after a 38 year hiatus in the Superdome. Yes, it's going to be small (or in the words of our recently retired President "intimate".) But Yulman is on campus and it's ours!

And it will get students excited from the time they step onto campus. My understanding is that Tulane freshmen and sophomores are not allowed to have cars, which made getting to the Superdome more inconvenient. The result was that students found excuses not to go to the games when they were first on campus, then by the time they had cars in NOLA, football was not a part of their campus experience. Lack of students and younger alumni made Tulane games at the Dome feel only slightly more exciting than a morgue.

Tulane needed an on-campus stadium more than anyone else in America. Because of this, I'm confident that Yulman will contribute to Tulane's elevation as one of the premier AAC football programs

This. We didn't lose the commuter feel until we got our new digs. It's nice to take a trip down memory lane a couple Saturdays a year. It's made a world of difference.

The fact that Temple plays at the Linc is no excuse for the poor student attendance...there are 2 subways stops serving campus and it's about a 20 minute trip from campus to the south philly sports complex.

Don't DISAGREE...with your experience but I scoff at the insinuation about how inferior an off campus experience can be b/c I have attended tons of NFL games around the country and many college games at some of the most storied programs in the game, but the atmosphere before, during and after USF's games against WVU, UL, UC and KU were comparable to any of those venues....especially the WVU and UL games.

Conversely, I've attended games in Gainesville and in Orlando that were played on campus and they were blah...due to the home team not doing well.

On Campus stadiums are ideal but it's not the end all be all.

Those USF games in 2007-2010 were a blast. I can't imagine how crazy it would've been with an OCS. Being born and raised in Tampa, and USF being my #2 team, I'm tired of hearing USF fans make excuses for staying at RayJay. Don't make the same mistake Miami did and are suffering for. There's plenty of room between the IM fields near the Sundome/athletics and MOSI, or by Greek Village. It'll cost $110 million tops, and USF will instantly begin to see a return.

Temple also provides free buses to the students. But I don't fault them, they usually represent 5-7000 attendance. It is the 200,000+ alums within an hour of the school who are the no-shows, and frankly, with all the losing who could blame them.

Off campus IS inferior due to the fact that it's played.....off campus. That alone makes it inferior since as UCF fans can attest to, there is simply nothing comparable to tailgating and enjoying the day on your own campus.

If you weren't so prideful then I'm sure you'd admit that you'd rather tailgate on USF's campus vs. tailgating in the giant crap grass lots along Dale Mabry while watching the crack addicts and white trash walk by.

Plus as we've seen, when USF isn't winning RJS is a ghost town.

If you weren't so intent on slamming him, you'd realize that he DID say that on-campus IS better than off-campus. Good Lord.

The Liberty Bowl is just as far away from our campus as William Brice stadium is from South Carolina's inner campus. (where their hoops arena is)
