Which key players did NU lose? They keep Venric Mark and Treyvon Green at RB; ditto the Jones's at WR. Siemian could be an upgrade at QB over Colter.

One thing about NU is their ultra-conservative coaching. They never pass deep. Passing routes are almost always the same. Almost every punt is a rugby punt. If NU grabs a lead, they've chronically severely risked those late leads with prevent defense and conservative play-calling offensively.

I, for one, believe this will be the one game that NIU's coaching can win. If NIU calls an aggressive game and coaches with a killer instinct, that's exploiting NU's recent achilles heel and the Huskies will take this game. I think it will be very similar to last year's Iowa game where NIU wins it uphill and late.

Mark missed almost all of 13, ran for 1200 in 12. If he's healthy NU"s offense goes, if not it struggles

IIRC, that 2012 10-3 NU team went 10-0 when Mark played all 4 Quarters and 0-3 when he did not. I believe NU might've led in all 3 losses at the time Mark left the game due to injury.

NU was a lot stronger defensively that year, though. I think this game plays out exactly like last year's Iowa game, and will depend on if NIU's playmakers step up late and the coaches employ an aggressive gameplan to exploit NU's ultra-conservatism.

I thought NU lost a few defensive players. I don't follow Wildcat football close enough to know everyone's name, but I read they lost a LB who was a big part of their defense. Getting Mark back will help, but he needs to stay healthy.

http://www.orlandosentinel.com/sports/bl...44817.post

"The Orlando Sentinel's college insider Matt Murschel has ranked all 128 Football Bowl Subdivision teams in the country entering the 2014 season. The Sentinel staff will take a closer look at a new team daily, counting backward from No. 128 to our projected No. 1 team.

Today at No. 38: Northern Illinois Huskies

Coach: Rod Carey (12-3, entering second season; 12-3 overall)

2013 record: 12-2 (8-0 in Mid-American Conference, first in West Division)

2014 ESPN Body Issue pictures

Look back: For four consecutive seasons, Northern Illinois claimed double-digit wins, including back-to-back 12-win seasons in 2012 and 2013. The Huskies opened up last season by claiming impressive wins over nonconference foes Iowa and Purdue from the Big Ten. Much of the success during the past few years centered around the play of quarterback Jordan Lynch. He led the program to another West Division crown, and a spot in another Bowl Championship Series game seemed inevitable. However, a 47-27 loss to Bowling Green in the league championship sent NIU to the Poinsettia Bowl, where the team lost its second straight bowl game.

Offensive starters returning: 9

Offensive starters lost: 2

Defensive starters returning: 5

Defensive starters lost: 6

Key losses: QB Jordan Lynch, OL Jared Volk, OL Matt Krempel, SS Jimmie Ward, DT Ken Bishop, DE George Rainey, FS Dominique Ware, DE Joe Windsor, NT Anthony Wells

Top returnees: RB Cameron Stingily, WR Da'Ron Brown, WR Tommylee Lewis, WR Juwan Brescacin, C Andrew Ness, LB Jamaal Bass, LB Boomer Mays, DE Jason Meehan

Strengths: Cameron Stingily managed to rush for 1,119 yards and nine touchdowns as the complementary piece to Lynch in the offense last season. The Huskies will lean heavily on Stingily and former Kissimmee Osceola tailback Akeem Daniels as the team's new starting quarterback develops.

Jamaal Bass, Boomer Mays and Michael Santacaterina all return to shore up the defense at the linebacker position. The trio combined for 233 total tackles and 4.5 sacks.

Weaknesses: There's no denying the fact that replacing Lynch at quarterback could be the biggest, toughest task on Carey's offseason to-do list. Lynch accounted for more than 65 percent of the Huskies' offensive output in 2013, and making up that kind of production won't be easy.

There appears to be three candidates for the starting quarterback job, with Drew Hare and Matt McIntosh having seen limited action last season (seven total pass attempts).

The Huskies gave up more than 200 yards through the air last season, and that secondary must figure out how to improve while adapting to the loss of two of its key players. Outlook: The Northern Illinois program has thrived with Chandler Harnish and later Lynch at quarterback. The Huskies won't have that luxury in 2014 and must quickly develop a quarterback if they are to continue the level of success they've enjoyed during the past four seasons.

2014 Schedule

Aug. 28 Presbyterian

Sept. 6 at Northwestern

Sept. 13 at UNLV"

NOTE: Even with a Florida journalist ranking us, we are one spot ahead of the University of Florida (39)

I find this pretty amazing. Not sure it is true though. I will enjoy this for now! My brother is a Gator! LOL
