Sinclair has been making a big push for sports coverage for their stations. They have been pushing high school football big in several markets, they have their own wrestling program as well. So this makes sense for them.

By the way I'm surprised that the MVC hasn't made a push with them, looking at the markets they cover the MVC tv markets very well.

Plus the just spent 900 million for 9 Allbitron Stations and 1 big one includes a Wash DC station (which is roughly about 750 million of the money spent)

Thanks for the post and link. This comes as no surprise to me as I regard the retooled and rearmed CUSA as having a strong platform for future success. In addition to the immediate exposure, this tv contract strengthens CUSA's negotiation position in its soon upcoming main tv contracts. Congrats to CUSA!!!

The MAC would fit perfect on that map.

I hope this new ASN Sports Network and CUSA crushes the paywall ESPN is trying to put up around sports and it backfires on the P5 Networks and ESPN. Cable cutting and cable nevers is increasing not stagnant. Enough people watch free TV and now can watch CUSA instead of SEC the better. Once the cable paywall backfires like it did for newspaper media, then those ridiculous sports rights fees will have to be renegotiated by necessity and the SEC will have to fight CUSA to get back to the larger distribution of Syndicated OTA TV.

ESPN subscribers declining for third straight year. Non-pay TV viewers increased for third straight year. Way to go Sinclair and CUSA. I hope the MAC follows suit now!!

Miami....the other big thing also for this is that being on the local broadcast stations, they are also on the basic cable packages. So if a cable customer just cuts to the local package only then these games still are able to be viewed. TWC has a basic package for just local channels only with HBO Go for the 'cord' cutters and its around $20/month.

The network isn't a bad fit for CUSA---but your right. It looks almost like it was made for the MAC.

You bring up an important point. Cable and satellite subscribers are decreasing. People are tired of paying more money for channels they never watch. My brother-in-law got rid of his Directv three years ago. He watches everything on Netflix, Hulu, and an antenna.

I'd do the same and get rid of my Directv if it weren't for sports. There should be a pick and choose option for pay T.V. services. I'm tired of paying for crappy channels I never watch and don't like.

About 1/2 of the MW schools fit there also. Affiliates can fill in the gaps for the rest of the conference.

Yes, this actually makes the problem worse for cable. If I was a CUSA fan I'd immediately drop cable and save $100 per month while I could still see all of my school's and conference games (they announced 100 events total for football and basketball). The few games that were carried on FS1 I would walk to the local sports bar and watch and drink free beer and eat free wings payed for by Comcast and ESPN from the $100 per month I was saving now. CAA, SoCon, Big South, Patriot League fans could do the same. Hopefully the MAC jumps all over this too.

The new SEC Channel and Comcast are going to really have to hike up their rates sky high to compensate for the continual decline in existing cable subscribers to be able to afford the P5 conference rights payouts. SEC fans will be paying $300 per month for cable and SEC Channel and CUSA fans will be watching for free. There is 130 million distribution for CW and only 95 million households for ESPN meaning 35 million households will now be watching CUSA instead of SEC.

Cable repeating the same mistakes the newspaper industry made.

Cable TV is not worth the price they charge. They nickle and dime you to death on everything. And do we even have to bring up the worst customer service ever? I droped it in 2008 and I've never looked back.

I disagree. Its cheap entertainment for the hours I watch it every month.

In the "good old days," there were only two football games I wanted to watch that were of interest to me. Oklahoma vs Texas. Oklahoma vs Nebraska. I should rephrase this to say the only two football games I COULD watch that were of interest to me were OU vs Texas and OU vs Nebraska.

Whatever the issues with satellite and cable, I am delighted with today's many sports options available. Even a small school like Tulsa gets telecast 9 or 10 times a year and all OU and OSU games and all B12 games. I am more than happy to pay satellite/cable tv fees and the extra fee for the sports package.

No coverage for: AState, Louisiana, ULM, Georgia State, Georgia Southern, Ark-LR, Tex-Arlington and probably not Troy.

Looking at CUSA: No coverage for UNT, LaTech, USM, FIU, Charlotte and WKU and Marshall look iffy

Its not really a bad deal for Charlotte since we have all our home games already in our market on the local CW affiliate (that's not SBG) WCCB. SBG seems to be in every market that does touch Charlotte though, so that's a good deal.

I have to say I have never agreed with a Tallgrass post more than this one. There are a lot of sports options available, and seemingly are growing yearly.
