"There’s nothing wrong with (mid-major offers),” Mitchell said. “He’s excited about the opportunity to go to Memphis, but we’re hoping maybe some of the bigger fish are going to start biting. He’s got to keep doing what he’s doing.”

The next time you think you could be a college football coach, ask yourself if you could put up with crap like this.

He is excited to be Tiger. And seems to be working the recruiting from his end as well...

Isn't that the guy who used to coach at OB? If I remember correctly, we didn't get many players from there when he was the coach.

He says there is nothing wrong with mid-major offers...we are beyond the offering point, the kid committed. The time to hope for the "bigger fish" to bite would be before the kid made a commitment.

Well, he impressed Alabama offensive coordinator Lane Kiffin at camp so he's got that going for him.

You have to give the kid credit for wanting to come to Memphis and knowing that the returning starter is only a sophomore. That takes confidence.

Not really....it is final when he signs the LOI.
Kids break commitments all the time (see Jones, Terrence from Washington to Kentucky)

Maybe that's why he changed schools this year.

Commitments aren't what they used to be.

I realize that the LOI is the legal commitment. However, I believe that your word is your bond and once you use words like "committed to" or "committing to" you have made that bond. I realize it happens all the time, but your Terrance Jones example just proves my point. I thought less of him and Cal after all that happened. I believe words have meaning. Especially words like "commitment."The kid wasn't up against some deadline, he could have waited but he chose to say he was committing. The implication that he was on board could lead the coaches to focus on other positions/needs on the team with their allotted recruiting time, the fake commitment could also cause other players at that position to scratch us off their list etc etc. Lots of implications from that "commitment." Why not wait until you are truly committed, before you use that word.

IMO all verbals should essentially be considered "soft" commitments at this point.
