MR (Memphis Related) - Lionel Hollins Speaks
Mods - if you want to move this to another forum, I understand

I find it interesting nonetheless......

http://www.netsdaily.com/2014/7/16/59102...mphis-look

"I'm pretty comfortable with New York. I just never thought I'd be living here ... especially after being 12 years in Memphis," he said smiling, adding, "Memphis is like, compared to New York, it's back in the stone age when you didn't have electricity or something. That's not a knock on Memphis, just a contrast in how developed and how unbelievably electric New York is versus Memphis. People are laid back, they move slow, they talk slow, drag their words out. Here everybody talks too fast."

I would like to think he didn't mean anything by it, that he poorly worded his compliment for New York. I doubt it though.

Silly of him to even compare the two. No city is like New York.

As a Memphis born / NYC local, they both have their charms. It is not a better/worse thing, just different. I prefer to live here and visit the 901 often, but they each have great things going for them.

The talk fast thing is true. I visit home and want to pull the words out of peoples mouths I'm so impatient.

I understand that, but....

"it's back in the stone age when you didn't have electricity"

is a major cheap shot

This reminds me of the Phil Jackson comment about dresden.

I hope he remembers how slow and backwards we are when we kick his ass next season.

I agree. Just the fact that he even made such a comparison was rude, uncouth and insulting.

You guys are funny. It wasn't a shot at all. He stuck around in Memphis this past year. I'd rather live in Memphis than NY any day. Too fast. Slow times during the summer.

Much ado about nothing. It's not the first time Hollins stuck his foot in his mouth. I suspect it won't be the last time he does it. That's just who he is. It cost him his job last time. Wait until he feels the heat of the New York press sometime this season. He'll be wishing he was back here in the Stone Age.

Good point, his next faux pas will be amplified far more than in Memphis.

I thought it was a huge mistake to let him leave, but now...not so much.

Just wait till the New Yorkers get a taste of his brand of basketball. They'll think they are in the stone age per say. NY is a nice place to visit, but I wouldn't want to live there except maybe in the rural areas such as Binghampton or Cooperstown. There are lots of open scenery and woods in those areas.

Say what you will about his social graces...you can't deny what he got out of his players in Memphis.
The defensive system for 'grit n grind' was already in place here...Memphis' defense just needed Tony Allen to be given a chance to show what he could to to make it a legit NBA D.|
Lionel will figure something out in Brooklyn I am sure.
