Great and absolutely necessary hire. One thing to keep in mind is to think about how many of Pastner's assistants have gone on to other jobs during his tenure (that says a lot about the quality of Pastner's hires). I doubt Lawson will be able to head coach anywhere soon, but who knows what a struggling school may do three or four years down the road? If they want to get Chandler and the 6th grader on board, it may make sense for them to make an offer of Lawson shows he knows what he's doing at the collegiate level. Just food for thought. Pumped about the hire and bringing the Lawsons in!

I think Lawson will stay in Memphis rather than go to a lower level school. We could match their offer. Now if a lower level Big 5 conference school calls offering over a million, then he has to listen and seriously consider that.

One thing that I haven't seen talked about is the timing of the hire.
Remember when Parrish kept on about why would you hire him when he could be at these AAU functions and network with other kids and parents because he was NOT on staff. Then, JP times the hire right before the Peach Jam so the NCAA can't throw the "strict liability" book at us (of course they lost that book when it came to UNC). I thought it was very smart timing.

I'm very excited about the Lawson's. Super smart move, great hire.

There's another benefit called the Bruce Pearl/Bill Self benefit. Both had sons that were walks on the basketball team. Both had nice apartments with everything you could ever want. Self's sons roommate was Andrew Wiggins.
