Yup, home opener in 2012, MD squeaked out a 7-6 win. W&M led almost the entire game. Statistically, it was even as well. Laycocke seems to have his teams well prepared when they step up in class.

Some background to that game. 2011, 25 players left the program after Edsall pretty much showed them the door. 2012, we lined up a true freshmen at qb, rb, wr and ot for the Bill & Mary game. Crazy year, was 4-4 but played the last 4 games with another true freshmen LB who played QB in HS. We lost 4 qb's to injury. That same qb is now #3 on the depth chart.

A little background on W&M's side, they ended up winning only 2 games that year.

Two of them will line up on defense against the Terps: Titus Till & Jeremiah Wilson.

I'm thinkin' that Withers and Lee are feeling the pressure to make a good game of it. If it's truly the start of a New Era, a lop-sided loss will look really bad. I'm predicting a close loss ... to the tune of 30-28.

GO DUKES !!!!

WR's are being pegged as the top unit in the BIG and we return 90% of our production from both offense and defense. Based on our schedule, we need this game so don't expect a let down and first game under the BIG umbrella should bring even more excitement.

If you have stud WR's, then it's already game over. Our safeties were miserable last season and I have seen nothing to make me confident that they have brought in the necessary personnel to improve there.

Vad Lee and our offense should look good I would think. The defense is where the question mark is. I'll be happy if they can keep UMD to 35 points or fewer.
Stefon Diggs is a top 50 NFL pick I think.

That doesn't mean I don't think JMU will have a few good drives or keep it close for a quarter or two, but there is no question Maryland is deeper and has more talent. Even against a sorry FBS team like Akron last season (whom we should have beaten), having 20 less schollies really begins to take a toll late in the game.

Early, early prediction, I got UMD 38-14.

With all due respect, the difference in the Akron game was not schollies, it was Big Red being unable to run due to the injured shoulder. We became one-dimensional offensively, which turned the game completely around.

That & some extremely dumb strategic stuff toward the end. Stupid penalty & bad time management.

Not to be a crybaby, but it was one of the most ridiculous things I've ever seen in football with that ref standing over the ball not letting us attempt a FG. That was surreal. I thought MM always needed to pick his spots to go off on the refs but he was justified on that one. That was insane.

True dat!!!!! I was there and couldn't believe what I was seeing most of the JMU fans were seething over that ref, and watching MM go after him and being held back by others was great. We should have had that one.

there was a reason why i said it was some of the worst officiating i've ever seen in a single game. both the defensive players AND the refs were content to lolly gag and waste time down the stretch.

I was a fan favorite of Titus Till, would have liked to see him stay. Was a good safety and had promise, although would have been potentially stuck on the depth chart. Davis, our current SS is #3 on Kipers Jr. NFL safeties and Nixon, FS is now a 3 year starter. #2's on the depth chart played alot last year.

Wilson, don't remember much other than a newbie at the rb position but again, he came in wiht a class in which is now congested. Will be fun to play against them.

Funny thing about Mickey and the refs. I have a buddy who is an ACC ref. Their training video on how to not handle a coach features our very own Mickey Matthews and one of his tirades. In the video they are asking - what did the referees do poorly? How should they have handled this coach earier in the game to avoid it getting to this point? I find it strange that the ACC is usuing video of a CAA school in the training of its refs. Mickey must have had quite the reputation.

Till from all accounts is a quality kid. Unfortunately he has had to play out of position in a hybrid LB/Safety roll. Hopefully this year he can return to a true Safety position and flurish. He can definitely hit.

I seem to recall, and I may be completely wrong about this, that the ACC and the CAA use the same pool of refs. So that might
explain why Mickey is in the video.

Please correct me if I am mistaken here.

I believe that's a basketball situation, not football. Anyone know?
